City of Santa Ana and WlB - RFP for Welfare-to-Work <br /> Participants for Apprenticeship and Affiliated Training Program <br /> employers who can provide the setting of proper procedures as well as provide examples of real world <br /> precautions and ways to minimize the potential for disease and/or injury. <br /> <br /> The increasing cultural diversity within the healthcare workforce, as well as patients, requires recognition of <br /> the unique differences and commonalities each person brings to the work environment. The healthcare <br /> workforce in America and California is comprised of individuals of various educational levels; with a value <br /> set that may be limited by culture, race, religion, or gender. Although reflective of society, the inherent <br /> scope of issues behooves not only employers, but educators as well. In addition, we will be using union <br /> members to conduct Job Shadowing/Coaching during participant's OJT phase, and assign a Mentor for <br /> support and tutoring assistance from the following participating unions: SEIU, CNA, and Union Nurses <br /> Associations of California/Union of Health Care Professional (UNAC). <br /> 2. Staff/Organization <br /> <br /> How Long in Existence - MCS Rehabilitation, Inc. was formed in 1987, and started delivering workforce <br /> services in 1994 under JTPA_to the present under WIA and WtW as a LA City WIB operator of a One-Stop <br /> Center: Hollywood WorkSource, and has been assisting the health care industry for over 15 years in placing <br /> individuals into various positions such as nurse re-entry, CNAs, LVNs, medical front desk, aides, orderlies, <br /> and attendants. Santa Monica College (SMC) has been in existence since 1929 and teaching health <br /> classes since 1968, and is the leader among community colleges in transfer students to UC institutions and <br /> USC. SEIU also has 20+ years of representing 32,000 workers in Southern California nursing homes and <br /> long-term care facilities. <br /> <br /> Staff and Hours Available to work with WIB WtW Participants - CNA Instructor - SMC employee that <br /> has a M.S. in Health Science combined with a B.S.R.N., and at a minimum 10+ years of classroom <br /> instruction experience. Mentors/Tutors - These folks are volunteers from the unions involved with this <br /> project. They will assist participants with remedial studies, job shadow/coach during their OJT hands-on on- <br /> site stage. Staff.will have the hours of 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M.
