Palmer and Martha Ann Cheney. On motion of Councilman Griset, <br />seconded by Councilman Carlson and carried, the communications were ordered filed. <br /> <br />Speaking in favor of an equal take from both sides were: Vic Silver, Robert <br />Cr~elin, Traffic Engineering Consultant for William L. Tooley, Charles <br />Linger, Merle Boyle, W. H. Rawlins, Mrs. Eugene Robinson, Kevin Leeg, Thomas <br />A. Xilleen, Dr. Tirico, J. B. Price. A letter presented to Council by Robert <br />Crc~melin, summarizing results of a study conducted by his firm, was ordered <br />filed on motion of Councilman Carlson, seconded by Councilman Griset and carried. <br /> <br />Speaking in opposition to an equal take were Harold Crai~and Alton Pamplin <br />presented a proposal for building setbacks. <br /> <br />The hearing was closed. <br /> <br />After discussion bY Council, it was moved by Councilman Carlson, seconded <br />by Councilman Griset, that the widening of 17th Street be implemented by <br />taking 12 feet off the south side and 12 feetoff the north side, and the <br />City Attorney was instructed to prepare an ordinance to amend the Municipal <br />Code accordingly. On roll call vote: <br /> <br />AYES: <br />NOES: <br />ABS~i': <br /> <br />Carlson, Griset, Markel <br />Brooks <br />Herrin, Thurman, McMichael <br /> <br />Mayor McMichael and Vice Mayor Herrin returned to the Council table. <br /> <br />RECESS <br /> <br />At 8:35 P~M~, a five minute recess was <br />declared. The Council reconvened at <br />8:~O P.M. with the same Council members present. <br /> <br />BUSINESS PROMOTION DISTRICT Hearing was opened on the proposed <br /> establishment of a Business Promotion <br /> District within the City of Santa Aha. <br />Burr Shafer, Vice President of the Downtown Association, presented a petition <br />containing additional names of businessmen in favor of the proposed Business <br />Promotion District, and stated that over 50% of the licensees in the proposed <br />district were in favor of it. On motion of Councilman Carlson, seconded by <br />Councilman Herrin and carried, the petition was ordered filed. <br /> <br />A number of questions by Lee Hadley, owner of property at Third and French, <br />were answered by Council and staff. There being no further testimony, the <br />hearing was closed. <br /> <br />On motion of Councilman Carlson, seconded by Councilman Griset, ORDINANCE NS-920 <br />ADDING CHAPTER 2 TO ARTICLE VI OFT HE SANTA ANA MUNICIPAL CODE TO PROVIDE FOR TEE <br />ESTABLISHMENT OF A BUSINESS PROMOTION DISTRICT AND TO ESTABLISH THE HATE OF <br />TAXATION FOR BUSINESSES T~qEIN was passed to second reading. <br /> <br />AYES: <br />NOES.: <br />ABSEI~T: <br /> <br />Herrin, Brooks, Carlson, Griset, Markel, McMichael <br />None <br />Thurman <br /> <br />CITY COUNCIL ~57 June 3, 1968 <br /> <br /> <br />
