COMMENTS <br />Councilmember Bist <br />• Invited residents to the Open House at the McFadden Learning and <br />Technology Center on November 7, 2003 <br />• Announced that on November 5, 2003 at the Main Library from 6:30 <br />p.m. to 7:30 p.m. there is a scheduled Internet safety class for <br />parents <br />• Recognized and thanked the four Santa Ana engine companies and <br />Battalion Chief dispatched to fight the recent wildland fires in <br />Southern California <br />Councilmember Alvarez <br />• Invited residents to volunteer for Neighborhood Clean-up day on <br />November 8, 2003, at Campesino and Santa Anita parks; <br />additionally, she invited residents to volunteer to help at the Artesia- <br />Pilar neighborhood Clean-up day on November 15, 2003 <br />• Wished all residents a Happy Thanksgiving and thanked community <br />members for all their contributions in the community including <br />recent efforts to reopen the Westend substation; she further <br />thanked the Police Department for their work in the City and the <br />Fire Department for their efforts in fighting the recent wildland fires; <br />she also thanked City employees for believing in the City <br />• Mayor ProTem Franklin <br />• Asked the City Manager to present a timeline on the proposed <br />Centerline project to the City Council <br />• Announced that there would be an open house scheduled for Fire <br />Station # 1 and also to introduce the City's New Fire Chief <br />• Asked Acting Fire Chief Ray Comeau to give a brief presentation on <br />the four Santa Ana strike teams that responded to the wildland fires <br />plaguing the Southern California Area. Chief Comeau reported that <br />four engine companies (#2, 3, 4 and 6) and Battalion Chief Randy <br />Black responded to requests for help. The first unit was called on <br />October 24, 2003 and responded to the Glen Helen Base camp in <br />San Bernardino County. Santa Ana Engine 3 also reported to the <br />Glen Helen Base Camp, and both units fought fires in the <br />communities of Alta Loma, Upland, Claremont, Rancho <br />Cucamonga and San Bernardino. They worked without rest for the <br />first 24 hours. All four units were utilized in the fight to protect <br />property and lives <br />• Asked that the Council adjourn in memory of Novato Firefighter <br />Steve Rucker who lost his life fighting the wildland fires <br />• Encouraged citizens to contact the Parks and Recreation <br />Department for information concerning sponsorship of park <br />benches in City Parks <br />CITY COUNCIL MINUTES 363 NOVEMBER 3, 2003 <br />
