All 50 Santa Ana Corpsmembers will complete an education curriculum consisting of the <br />following: <br />• Job Specific Skills Training: proper tool use; safe work practices; CPR and First <br />Aid, leadership training; computer skills; project specific and related job skills. <br />• Employment Search Skills Training: skills inventory; local labor market <br />information; job search, referral and application preparation; resume preparation; <br />portfolio development; interview techniques; and job placement and retention skills <br />training. <br />• Educational Training: daily high school education classes and/or academic <br />remediation classes; Math, Reading, Government, Geography, Economics, Health, <br />History, World History, Science, Fine Arts and English (CA State Standards) <br />instruction; bilingual education as needed; and educational field trips. <br />• Leadership Skills: Character Education Course (Ethics, Honesty, Teambuilding, <br />Virtues, Self Discipline, Compassion, Perseverance and Role Model Essays); OCCC <br />Leadership Council participation; tutoring and mentoring of other Corpsmembers; <br />and opportunities for responsibility (Tool Person, Safety Person, Assistant Crew <br />Leader and Crew Leader positions). <br />• Life Skills: time management; substance abuse awareness; health issues; <br />consumerism; anger management; money management/budgeting; and banking. <br />• Positive Work Ethic: attendance/punctuality; following rules and directions; people <br />skills; accepting responsibility; appearance; and employer expectations. <br />• Conservation Awareness: recycling and conservation. <br />• Community Activism: good citizenship; voter registration, civics; Street Law <br />SR22/curfew; how a bill becomes a law; Selective Service registration; volunteer <br />weekend work projects. <br />OCCC is affiliated with the California Charter Academy and operates a charter school <br />campus where those cros without a high school diploma can earn high school credits <br />while working for OCCC. Cms, supported by OCCC project and academic staff, are <br />encouraged to complete the required coursework to earn their high school diploma <br />through the OCCC charter school. Corpsmembers who have achieved a high school <br />diploma are expected to pursue other educational goals, e.g., community college <br />attendance, Regional Occupational Program participation, vocational or trade training, <br />etc. <br />Illustrate how the organization will interface with the Santa Ana W/O/R/K Center and how <br />the participant flow will occur and how parent involvement will be incorporated. <br />Include the following categories: <br />Outreach / Recruitment / Eligibility Determination <br />Outreach and recruitment activities will be ongoing as needed as, at any given time, <br />OCCC has a waiting list of 25-30 potential cros anxious to participate in the positive <br />Corps experience. Outreach and recruitment activities may include networking with local <br />agencies such as Probation and the Santa Ana Police Department, advertisements, job <br />flyers, job fairs, door hangers, and canvassing places like local malls, parks, and <br />businesses where youth 'hang-out'. OCCC will establish an office at the WORK Center <br />to facilitate outreach and recruitment activities. Those youth determined to be potential <br />Santa Ana WIA-eligible youth will be referred to the Santa Ana WORK Center navigator <br />for eligibility determination. <br />18 <br />
