RESOLUTION 69-163 ESTABLISHING A WEEK OF NATIONAL UNITY <br />was adopted, on motion of Councilman Herrin, seconded by Councilman <br />Villa and unanimously carried. <br /> <br />Tom Eldredge also requested that a copy of the Resolution be forwarded <br />to President Nixon. <br /> <br />FIESTA COMMITTEE Council ordered filed a statement <br />EXPENDITUI~ES of expenditures for the Centennial <br /> Fiesta, presented by Frank Benjamin, <br />Chairman of the Fiesta Committee of the Centennial Committee, on <br />motion of Councilman Markel, seconded by Councilman Herrin and <br />unanimously carried. <br /> <br />Mr. Benjamin expressed the hope that an annual Fiesta could be held <br />in the future. <br /> <br />LA BOLSA PAtaK Gene Laurneister, Recreation <br /> Director, presented schematic <br /> plans for La Bolsa Park, a <br />neighborhood park, located on the south side of First Street, east of <br />Harbor Boulevard, consisting of 5.2 acres, completely surrounded by <br />homes, explaining that, in keeping with our community relations pro- <br />gram, the people in the neighborhood had gotten together and decided <br />what they wanted in their park. Ernie Delgado spoke on behalf of the <br />people in the neighborhood, explaining that the park is badly needed in <br />their area; that a neighborhood meeting has been scheduled at Russell <br />School for November 20, at 7:30 P.M., to which the Council was in- <br />vited; and that during that meeting, they would like a time schedule <br />commitment for the park development. The City Manager explained <br />that $80,000 had been budgeted this year to begin the development of <br />this park and that the ttltimate cost would be $200,000 to $250,000. <br />He also stated that at mid-year budget revision time, a strongly <br />revised budget for Recreation and Parks would be recommended. <br /> <br />COMMUNITY ACTION COUNCIL Councilman Brooks reported on <br /> his attendance at Community <br /> Action Council meetings. He <br />stated that a group of Mexican-American youths were working in the <br />community to fight the "dope" problem; that the group is searching <br />for a meeting place, preferably in the Second and Kaitt Street area; <br />that the:major problems are job transportation, housing and child <br />care; and that the greatest accomplishment is manifested in those <br />programs involving the youth. <br /> <br />SOUTHWESTERN LEGAL On motion of Councilman <br />FOUNDATION Patterson, seconded by Council- <br /> man Villa and unanimously <br />carried, the City Attorney was authorized to attend the five day course <br />on local government problems at the Southwest Legal Foundation in <br />Dallas, Texas from December 8 through December lZ, at City expense. <br /> <br />CITY COUNCIL <br /> <br />-380- <br /> <br />November 3, 1969 <br /> <br /> <br />
