workshops, seminars, conferences and similar activities not identifiable as a formal <br />course of instruction within the curriculum of a recognized educational institution do <br />not fall within the purview of this program but may be authorized and funded by the <br />Police Department with prior approvaI of the Police Chief. <br /> <br />6.3 Reimbursement. <br /> <br />Reimbursement will be based on the cost of tuition or registration fees and all <br />required texts and related material for each course. Additional expenses such as <br />meals and parking fees are not reimbursable. If, however, an employee is required <br />by the Police Chief to attend a particular course or seminar, the expense shall be <br />borne entirely by the Department. <br /> <br />Costs for required texts are eligible for one hundred percent (100%) reimbursement <br />subject to the following conditions: <br /> <br />That a duplicate of the required text(s) was unavailable for loan from the <br />Department library prior to the commencement of coursework; and <br /> <br />That any textbook(s) purchased by the City shall be submitted to the <br />employee's Departmental library in order that such text(s) may be made <br />available to all employees. <br /> <br />Tuition and registration costs are eligible for one hundred percent (100%) <br />reimbursement up to a maximum of two thousand dollars ($2,000) per year per <br />(including non-P.O.S.T, reimbursable courses and approved non-collegiate seminar <br />training courses). <br /> <br />Reimbursement for non-collegiate seminar training courses require the prior approval <br />of the Police Chief and shall be limited to two (2) such courses per year and a <br />maximmn of $500 per course. <br /> <br />Employees shall be limited, for purposes of tuition reimbursement, to a maximum <br />of two (2) collegiate level courses of not more than a total number of units which <br />is equivalent to six (6) "semester" units per semester. One (1) "quarter" unit shall <br />equal two-thirds (2/3) of one (1) "semester" unit. <br /> <br />6.4 Procedures. <br /> <br />An employee who desires to seek tuition reimbursement under the provisions of this <br />Article must complete, in duplicate, an Application for Training and Educational <br />Assistance form and submit it to the Police Chiefi <br /> <br />I2 <br /> <br /> <br />
