They have never held a job and therefore have no work history as evidenced by their <br />WlA Program pre-application; <br />They live in a "high crime area" as designated by the Santa Aha Police Department; <br />Their core GPA is less than 1.5 as evidenced by school records; <br />They have been suspended five or more times or have been previously expelled as <br />evidenced by school records; and/or, <br />They are designated as a "special needs" student as evidenced by their school records <br />(e.g., enrolled in special education with a valid IEP, designated as limited English <br />proficient, etc.). <br /> <br />The above summary concludes the Executive Summary portion of this application by the Career <br />Development/ROP Department of the Santa Aha Unified School District to refine and implement <br />the Right Start! program. <br /> <br />MAIN PURPOSE OF THE RIGHT START[ PROGRAM <br /> <br />As the local public school agency for well over 100 years, the Santa Ana Unified School <br />District's mission has been to prepare Santa Ana's youth for successful adult lives. As the world <br />becomes more complex and ever higher demands for knowledge and skills are placed on high <br />school graduates, this task becomes evermore problematic. The participants in the Right Start! <br />program will benefit from the program by receiving an array of services to help them <br />successfully complete their entry level career training and assist them with their transition to the <br />dual spheres of higher education and the world-of-work <br /> <br />During the yearlong program, participants will meet on a regular basis with program staff when <br />the ROP is in session. It is planned that these contacts will be between two to four times per <br />month. The ROP courses in which the Right Start! participants are enrolled for their training <br />will last from 135 to 360 hours depending upon the course in which they are enrolled. With <br />respect to adult/participant ratios for Right Start!, three full-time personnel working directly in <br />the Secondary Enrichment Programs section of the Career Development/ROP Department will <br />staff program.
