REQUEST FOR <br />COUNCIL ACTION <br /> <br />~I~Ty COUNCIL MEETING DATE: <br />FEBRUARY 2, 2004 <br /> <br />TITLE: <br />2004 URBAN AREAS SECURITY <br />INITIATIVE GRANT PROGRAM <br /> <br />CLERK OF COUNCIL USE ONLY: <br /> <br />APPROVED <br /> <br />[] As Recommended <br />[] As Amended <br />[] Ordinance on 1st Reading <br />[] Ordinance on 2nd Reading <br />[] Implementing Resolution <br />[] Set Public Hearing For <br /> <br />CITY MANAGER <br /> <br />CONTINUEDTO <br /> <br />RECOMMENDED ACTION <br /> <br />Adopt a resolution authorizing the City Manager, Chief of Police and the <br />Fire Chief to submit a grant application to the State of California, <br />Office of Emergency Services for the fiscal year 2004 Urban Areas <br />Security Initiative Grant funding program. <br /> <br />~CUSSION <br /> <br />The United States Department of Homeland Security, Office of Domestic <br />Preparedness has developed the Urban Areas Security Initiative Grant <br />.funding program (UASI). UASI provides funds to local emergency first <br />responders to enhance security and overall preparedness to prevent, <br />respond, and recover from acts of terrorism. The grant specifically <br />provides funding for anti-terror equipment, planning, training, exercises, <br />and technical assistance. Designated urban area cities are required to <br />apply for the grant through the State Office of Emergency Services. <br /> <br />The City of Santa /Lna has been selected as a Designated Urban Area City <br />and is eligible for Department of Homeland Security UASI program funds. <br />The City of Santa Aha Police and Fire Departments will work with the <br />County of Orange and cities within our Urban Area to determine current <br />capabilities and needs, and to establish goals and objectives. The Santa <br />Ana Urban Area will work in collaboration with the City of Anaheim and its <br />Urban Area to develop complimentary implementation strategies for <br />responding to acts of terrorism. <br /> <br />FISCAL IMPACT <br /> <br /> -There is no fiscal impact associated wit~-t~ <br /> <br />~/V~ul M.
