PRESENTATIONS <br /> <br />DIGITAL MEDIA INCUBATOR <br /> <br />At the request of Director Hernandez, this item was continued indefinitely. <br /> <br />BOARD TASK FORCE REPORT <br /> <br />BUDGET AND PROGRAM TASK FORCE, presented by Mike Metzler <br /> <br />Director Metzler reported that two items approved by the Budget and <br />Program Task Force were on tonight's Empowerment Zone Agenda. <br />Additionally, he noted that at the last meeting of this Task Force, he was <br />appointed Chair. <br /> <br />Director Brewster commended Director Hernandez for his service as Chair <br />of the Budget and Program Task Force. <br /> <br />STAFF REPORTS <br /> <br />ANNUAL EMPOWERMENT ZONE REPORT <br /> <br />Cesar Cedeno, Economic Development Specialist briefly summarized the <br />Empowerment Zone Subdivision Annual Report for 2002. This report, <br />prepared by staff, encompasses five different sections that address <br />important aspects of t he E mpowerment Zone Program a nd summarizes <br />the activities and accomplishments during 2002. <br /> <br />Mr. Cedeno also noted that the RFP for the next funding round was <br />released on March 12, 2003 and over 95 ~packets were sent out. There <br />was a conference held on March 19, 2003 and additional packets were <br />distributed. The Requests for Proposals are due on April 16, 2003. <br /> <br />EMPOWERMENT ZONE TAX CREDIT PROGRAM <br /> <br />Melissa Alva, Economic Development Specialist I, reported that, with the <br />availability of federal tax incentives to businesses in the zone, City staff <br />has developed a system to help track the usage of the Federal Wage <br />Credit Program. Staff is now able to track how many businesses are <br />using the credits, how many residents qualify for the program and general <br />information regarding their positions. <br /> <br />SAEC MINUTES 5 MARCH 26, 2003 <br /> <br /> <br />
