Exercises Planned exercises will be conducted through various. grants available to the Operational Area, including the Fiscal Year 2003 Homeland Security grant part I. No additional exercises are requested through the term of this grant. Traininq The Training and Equipment Committee has examined the training needs for the Operational Area and made recommendations to the Five Member Approval Authority. The law enforcement discipline is in need of additional training above the awareness level (29 CFR 1910.120) for responding to and handling WMD incidents. A sixteen hour Force Protection Course has been submitted to POST for certification. This course is specific to the law enforcement mission and includes training in perimeter control, command post and decontamination security, evidence protection, use of PPE and scene safety. For unity in response capabilities, law enforcement agencies in the OA have agreed to send their emergency responders to this Force Protection Course. There is an additional need for emergency responder ambulance and emergency room hospital staff to receive training in responding to and handling a WMD incident. An ODP Awareness level course will be utilized via the ODP website. A command level course for fire (With the intention to integrate law) was recommended. This course will enhance an administrator's ability to operate a command post during a WMD incident. This will include follow up instruction in Unified Command and the Incident Command System. Planninq/Administration Planning for the Op~rational Area has been satisfied through the FY 2003 Homeland Security Grant part I funding. No additional monies are requested to augment the Needs Assessment and Strategy due September 30, 2003. An administration fee of 2% is request~d by the Operational Area to cover employee costs, supplies, and equipment tracking throughout the grant process.
