<br />Exercises <br />Planned exercises will be conducted through various. grants available to the <br />Operational Area, including the Fiscal Year 2003 Homeland Security grant part I. <br />No additional exercises are requested through the term of this grant. <br /> <br />Traininq <br /> <br />The Training and Equipment Committee has examined the training needs for the <br />Operational Area and made recommendations to the Five Member Approval <br />Authority. The law enforcement discipline is in need of additional training above <br />the awareness level (29 CFR 1910.120) for responding to and handling WMD <br />incidents. A sixteen hour Force Protection Course has been submitted to POST <br />for certification. This course is specific to the law enforcement mission and <br />includes training in perimeter control, command post and decontamination <br />security, evidence protection, use of PPE and scene safety. For unity in <br />response capabilities, law enforcement agencies in the OA have agreed to send <br />their emergency responders to this Force Protection Course. <br /> <br />There is an additional need for emergency responder ambulance and emergency <br />room hospital staff to receive training in responding to and handling a WMD <br />incident. An ODP Awareness level course will be utilized via the ODP website. <br /> <br />A command level course for fire (With the intention to integrate law) was <br />recommended. This course will enhance an administrator's ability to operate a <br />command post during a WMD incident. This will include follow up instruction in <br />Unified Command and the Incident Command System. <br /> <br />Planninq/Administration <br /> <br />Planning for the Op~rational Area has been satisfied through the FY 2003 <br />Homeland Security Grant part I funding. No additional monies are requested to <br />augment the Needs Assessment and Strategy due September 30, 2003. <br /> <br />An administration fee of 2% is request~d by the Operational Area to cover <br />employee costs, supplies, and equipment tracking throughout the grant process. <br />
