.' " Specific Park Activities Day Camp programs at Santiago Park would utilize the park's unique surroundings and natural beauty. Outside programs such as the Santa Ana Zoo program could be integrated. Walking field trips to the Discovery Museum and Hart Park pool may also be incorporated. Teen and Adventure campers may occasionally go to the beach or join other YMCA of Orange County camps on excursions to local attractions. Proposed weekly activities specific to Santiago Park would include archery, lawn bowling, interpretive programs and service projects. Due to the natural rustic setting there are program activities that are conducive to the environment, such as sports on the softball diamond, tennis, soccer, bird walks, Native American history, indigenous plants and animal study, water quality education, overnights and orienteering. Through consultation with Santiago Park Naturalist Patrick Mitchell, a preliminary schedule is in development. As members of both the Santa Ana community and the YMCA of Orange County, campers will also participate in a service project that will directly benefit the park. Patrick Mitchell and camp leadership have discussed appropriate projects that could be incorporated into the camp schedule. Scholarships The YMCA of Orange County raises funds annually to provide program scholarships to those who demonstrate need. There are specific criteria associated with the scholarship process (the guidelines have been attached). Currently the Central Orange Coast YMCA has allocated $8,000 from the annual giving campaign, Partner with Youth, for day camp scholarships in 2004. Responsibilities The YMCA of Orange County will be responsible for overall operation of the camp program, including program development, management, evaluation, camper and staff supervision, program enrollment and compliance with appropriate standards, policies and laws. The YMCA of Orange County will operate a balanced day camp budget in fiscal year 2004. Attached is an association budget for the day camp programs as well as a copy of the audited financial statement for fiscal year 2002. The City of Santa Ana will provide park use and support from the park staff members within their current scope of responsibilities for specific camp program activities such as natural interpretive programs, overnights, service projects, and technical site support. In addition, the City of Santa Ana will provide assistance developing relationships with local organizations such as Park Santiago Neighborhood Association, the archers group, the lawn bowlers and other community groups that could potentially influence the success of the camp program. ,VOAY CAM~ We build strong kids, strong families, strong communities.
