COMMENTS <br /> <br />· Announced that Bally's Health Club and the owners of the old Bicycle <br /> Club have reached agreement on use of this site at Bristol and <br /> MacArthur for a wine tasting restaurant which is in planning review <br />· Noted that the annual Youth Exposition will be held this year at <br /> Centennial Regional Park on March 16, 2003 and encouraged <br /> sponsors and vendors who deal with the City's youth to participate in <br /> this event <br />· Congratulated the Central City Neighborhood Association and City <br /> staff for working together to improve the neighborhood by changing <br /> the negative elements; she noted that a bar involved in frequent <br /> police activity had lost its liquor license and the neighborhood is now <br /> looking at housing opportunities at this site <br />· Noted that there was a recent article in the Orange County Register <br /> relative to federal fines against oil companies for repairs necessary <br /> as a result of underground tank leakage <br /> <br />Councilmember Bist: <br /> · Asked the Parks and Recreation Agency to assist in recruiting <br /> applicants for the Youth Commission <br /> · Noted that an Art Bar has recently opened in the Santora building <br /> and that it offers individuals an opportunity to try their hand at various <br /> art projects; she noted that it is located in the basement and operates <br /> Saturday, Sunday and Mondays from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. <br /> · Noted that the City is currently in discussions with Westfield <br /> Corporation relative to improvements at Main Place and expressed <br /> concern about plans to replace the fountain near the Nordstrom store <br /> with a cosmetic counter <br /> · Encouraged residents to vote in the February 4, 2003 Santa Ana <br /> Unified School District Special Recall Election <br /> <br />Councilmember Alvarez: <br /> · Informed residents that there were fewer polling places for the <br /> February 4th election because it is a "special" election and <br /> encouraged voters to check their sample ballots for their polling place <br /> and to remember to vote <br /> · Asked residents to support the City and the City's staff in the <br /> upcoming months as the City and the State face many challenges <br /> with respect to the current state budget crisis <br /> · Wished everyone success in 2003 <br /> <br />Mayor Pro Tem Franklin: <br /> · Asked the City Manager to contact the Orange County Water District <br /> for informational material on groundwater contamination in response <br /> to Councilmember Christy's concerns <br /> <br />CITY COUNCIL MINUTES 20 JANUARY 6, 2003 <br /> <br /> <br />
