CITY COUNCIL COMMENTS <br />Councilmember Garcia: <br />• Thanked the Human Relations Commission for their hard work in <br />reviewing the applications for social service funds from the <br />Community Development Block Grant (CDBG); he further thanked <br />all the organizations that provide needed services to the residents <br />of the City <br />• Thanked the Parks, Recreation and Community Services Agency <br />for a very successful Youth Expo held at Centennial Park on April <br />6, 2003 <br />Councilmember Solorio: <br />• Thanked the Human Relations Commission, City staff and all the <br />organizations that submitted Community Development Block Grant <br />Fund requests for their efforts <br />• Thanked the City Manager for his efforts in persuading the Santa <br />Ana Unified School Board that the Farmers Insurance site was not <br />ideal for school use, and asked him to continue working with the <br />District in identifying appropriate school sites in the City. <br />Councilmember Christy: <br />• Thanked Community Development Agency staff and the Human <br />Relations Commission for all their efforts in the recommendations <br />for allocation of 2003-04 Community Development Block Grant <br />Funds <br />• Noted that the Youth Expo held on April 6, 2003 at Centennial Park <br />was outstanding and that the site was ideal; she further thanked <br />Alma Flores of the City Manager's office for her assistance in <br />getting well known and ranked.colleges to participate in the event; <br />she noted that reactions from the youth who attended were very <br />positive <br />• Noted that in a recent report on America's safest cities, Santa Ana <br />was ranked 4ch out of 56 cities in the nation based on size; she <br />congratulated Chief Walters and the Santa Ana Police Department <br />on this accomplishment <br />• Congratulated "El Don", Santa Ana College's newspaper for again <br />receiving an award for best journalism in the nation <br />CITY COUNCIL MINUTES 136 APRIL 7, 2003 <br />
