<br />COMMENTS <br /> <br />8 <br /> <br />Council member Christy <br />. Asked that the issue of miniature motorbikes be sent to the Public <br />Safety Council Committee <br />. Noted that she agreed with comments relative to the dangers of <br />fireworks; noted that there was a fire in a complex that displaced 37 <br />individuals; the investigation is not complete but it is believed that the <br />fire was ignited by fireworks; she noted that this issue will also be <br />considered by the Public Safety Committee <br />. Asked residents to consider rental insurance to protect their property in <br />the event of a disaster <br />. Congratulated the Boys and Girls Club for the very successful "Ride <br />the Coast" event; she noted that there were approximately 900 riders <br />. Noted that Mayor Pulido was currently in Sacramento with many other <br />big city Mayors, attempting to protect the interests of local <br />governments in the budget process <br />. Asked the Council to adjourn in memory of Ruth Fox, 92 years old; <br />she noted that Ruth was an activist who fought for full inclusion of <br />blacks and minorities; in 1930 she founded a group which raised funds <br />for minorities to attend college; her father was the first minister of the <br />2nd Baptist Church in Santa Ana <br />. Noted that Sav-on and Target stores are still selling fireworks and <br />asked staff to look into this situation <br /> <br />8 <br /> <br />Councilmember Bist <br />. Suggested that the Public Safety Committee review the feasibility of <br />having fireworks considered very dangerous removed from the <br />packages sold at the stands in the City <br />. Thanked John Reekstin for his service to the City of Santa Ana <br />. Asked the Council to adjourn in memory of Alan Anderson; he was an <br />exceptional neighbor and resident and he will be greatly missed <br /> <br />Council member Alvarez <br />. Thanked John Reekstin for his dedicated service to the City and noted <br />that Rip Ribble, Executive Director of Parks, Recreation and <br />Community Services will also be leaving the City shortly <br />. Reminded residents that the ''Tooth-a-thon'' will be held on October 1- <br />2,2004 at 616 W. Edinger Avenue in Santa Ana <br />. Congratulated the Wilshire Square Neighborhood on the success of its <br />annual home tour <br />. Announced that the Children's Zoo will be opening on July 17, 2004 at <br />10:00 a.m. <br />.
