MINUTES OF THE ADJOURNED REGULAR MEETING
OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF SANTA ANA, CALIFORNIA

June 29, 1972

An Adjourned Regular Meeting of the City Council of the City of Santa Aha was
convened at ?:20 P.M., in the Mayor's Office, City Hall, 217 North Main Street,
proper Notice and Posting having been accomplished, with affidavits on file with
the Clerk of the Council. The,following Councilmen were present: Vernon S.
Evans, Wade Herrin, Harry K. Yamamoto, SerryMo Patterson, J~.Ogden
Markel and Mayor Lorin Griset. Councilman Ray Villa was absent. Also present
were Acting City Manager Bruce Co Spragg, City Attorney James A. Withers,
Assistant to the Manager Go David Tayco, Clerk of the Council Florence I.
Malone, amd representatives of the Press and Chamber of Commerce.

1972-1973 BUDGET The Acting City Manager stated
that the proposed Budget is in
balance but that there are a
number of unfunded critically needed items; and that the Manager's Budget
Message indicates a carry-over from the 1971-1972 Budget of approximately
$800, 000; that the Finance Director's latest estimates are that there will be
approximately $270,000 more than originally anticipated. He reminded Council
that the proposed Budget would be amended to include $52, ?50 representing 50
percent of the outstanding amounts of street reimbursements reported and
authorized for payment by Council on June 26, 1972, and $Z0,000 representing
an incremental payment for the purchase of park land .at 7th & Harper Street.
He reported that no tax increase has been proposed and the tax rate will
remain at $1.35 per $100 assessed valuation; that the assessed valuation of the
City is not known and the earliest expected release of that information for fiscal
year 1972-73 is July 5.

He pointed out that the City's operating costs were lower than other cities of
the same size because Santa Aha employs three employees less per thousand
population.

Council discussed the policy of assigning City vehicles. The consensus was thatpoolin
vehicles would be more readily accomplished when all City departments are
located in the new City Hall.

It was moved by Councilman Evans, seconded by Councilman Herrin to discontinue
publication of the "Santa Aha Newstory". The motion failed to carry on the
following roll call vote: _

AYES:
NOES:
ABSENT:

Evans, Herrin, Markel
Griset, Yamamoto, Patterson
Villa

CITY COUNCIL MINUTES -253- JUNE 29, 1972
