AMENDMENT APPLICATION //704 - (Continued) <br /> <br />The Mayor stated that this area is a residue of an M 1 designation which extended <br />after the Burroughs Corporation bought the property at the southwest corner of <br />Warner and Bristol; that all of the area except this one property has been rezoned <br />and developed R 1, and it would, therefore, he consistent to rezone it to R lkpRD. <br /> <br />Councilman Herrin's motion, seconded by Councilman Yamamoto, to approve <br />Amendment Application #?04 and instruct the City Attorney to prepare an ordinance <br />rezoning the properties from the M 1 District to the R 1-PRD District, carried <br />on the following roll call vote: <br /> <br />AYES: <br />NOES: <br />ABSENT: <br /> <br />Herrin, Yamamoto, Villa, Griset, Patterson, Markel <br />Evans <br />None <br /> <br />APPEAL #306 The Mayor stated that a written <br />VA 72-46 request ha~t been received from <br />SUBURBIA, INC. the applicant to continue to the <br /> regular meeting of July 17, 1972, <br />the public hearing on Appeal #306, filed by Suburbia, Inc., appealing the <br />Planning Commission's denial of VA ?2-46 to construct a 24~unit apartment <br />development in the R g District at 806 - 814 So Cypress° <br /> <br />Councilman Evans was opposed to the continuance since a similar request had not <br />been allowed at a previous meeting° Mayor Griset stated that there was a <br />significant difference; that at the previous meeting there were many people present <br />who were interested in hearing the matter; and that in this instance, when he <br />requested an indication of interest from the audience, there was no one present to <br />speak in favor of or in opposition to this matter. <br /> <br />Councilman Patterson stated that he is opposed to granting continuances of public <br />hearings without good reason; that more justification than "out of the area" is <br />required for continuation. <br /> <br />Councilman Herrin stated that if a public hearing is set and interested people <br />are present, there should be a very definite reason established for continuance. <br /> <br />Councilman Vi!la's motion, seconded by Councilman Markel, to continue the <br />public hearing on Appeal #306 filed by Suburbia, Inc., to July t7, 1972, carried <br />on the following roll call vote: <br /> <br />AYES: <br />NOES: <br />ABSENT: <br /> <br />Villa, Markel, Herrin, Griset, Yamamoto <br />Evans, Patterson <br />None <br /> <br />SERVICE STATION Councilman Herrin stated he <br />ENFORCEMENT PROGRAM requested a report from staff <br /> because he had received a <br />large number of calls from service station operators with regard to what they <br />considered to be considerable harassment from the inspector responsible for <br />this matter; that during the surveillance which has been in effect in recent <br />months, a great many people in this business have been told that they could not, <br />under any circumstance, display any merchandise outside of the building, that <br /> <br />CITY COUNCIL MINUTES -267- JULY 3, 1972 <br /> <br /> <br />
