<br />AA Recognizing S.A.I.N.T and S.P.I.R.I.T <br />Weed and Seed Grant Revenues <br />October 04, 2004 <br />Page 3 <br /> <br />The Boys and Girls Club is designated as a S.A.I.N.T Safe Haven site and <br />will provide computer instruction at the McFadden Technology and Learning <br />Center. The instructor will provide training in the use of computers and <br />learning activities that include literacy, mathematics, science, and <br />writing. Kennedy Elementary School is also currently designated as a Safe <br />Haven site for the S.P.I.R.I.T program. The Safe Haven program is a <br />multi-service center providing before and after school services for youth <br />and their families with a focus on reading and science. <br /> <br />The Society of St. Vincent De Paul currently operates a Re-entry Program <br />that provides transitional referral services, substance abuse counseling, <br />and support group services to inmates returning to the community. With <br />the additional funds, they will be providing these services on a <br />contractual basis to incarcerated inmates returning to the S.A.I.N.T Weed <br />and Seed community. Probation Officers from the County of Orange <br />Probation Department are currently working with the Santa Ana Police <br />Department (SAPD) to closely monitor youth probationers living in the Weed <br />and Seed areas. probation Officers and SAPD officers conduct operations, <br />including home searches, to ensure the youth are in compliance and meeting <br />the terms of their probation. With the additional funding, these programs <br />will continue to provide services through September 30, 2005. <br /> <br />For the fifth and final year of the Weed and Seed Program, the S.A.I.N.T. <br />and S.P.I.R.I.T Steering Committees also recommended agreements for the <br />funding of four additional programs to support the tutoring and computer <br />centers in the Weed and Seed areas. The EI Puente KIDWORKS CDC operates <br />two Centers out of the Myrtle Street and Townsend Street apartment <br />complexes. KIDWORKS is currently designated as a Safe Haven site for the <br />S.A.I.N.T. program and will provide Weed and Seed youth with academic and <br />computer tutoring out of the two centers. <br /> <br />Families Together of Orange County-Lyon Street Parent Center is also <br />designated as as. P. R. I . T. Safe Haven program. The Center will provide <br />school readiness activities for youth four and five years of age. The <br />Center will also provide computer instruction to Weed and Seed youth <br />through its Computer Lab. Computer instruction includes Microsoft Word, <br />Excel, powerpoint, Access, and Internet Navigation. <br /> <br />The Cambodian Family, Inc. is designated as a Safe Haven program. The <br />Cambodian Family, Inc. will provide computer-assisted homework and <br />academic tutoring in multiple subjects to youth from first through twelfth <br />grades. Students will also receive instruction on Internet navigation and <br />website development. <br /> <br />20A-3 <br />
