ORAL COMMUNICATION <br />PERSONNEL VACANCIES <br /> <br />budget year. <br /> <br />Councilman Garthe inquired <br />as to the status of <br />recruitment for personnel <br />in the City for the current <br /> <br />The City Manager stated that the budget had authorized sixty-five <br />additional positions; that there was normally about a 5% vacancy <br />factor; that there were over 1,000 positions in the City; that <br />the Fire Department currently had sixteen or seventeen vacancies <br />for which there were almost two hundred applications on file and <br />that the positions would probably be filled within the next three <br />or four weeks; that the Police Department currently had 28 vacancies <br />21 of which had been added on July 1, 1973; that lateral transfers <br />from other Police Departments, particularly other California Police <br />Departments, were being considered. (CA 50) <br /> <br />ORAL COMMUNICATION Councilman Ward stated <br />MAYOR'S FREEWAY COMMITTEE that he had recently <br /> attended a meeting of the <br /> Mayor's Freeway Committee, <br />and that there had been discussion at the meeting regarding a <br />change of name of the committee; that one recommendation had been <br />to change the name to "Mayor's Transportation Committee", and <br />to direct their interest not only to freeways but to rapid <br />transit and other transportation modes within the City; that <br />the Committee would be presenting other suggestions as well. <br /> <br />The Mayor suggested that the recommendations be considered at <br />one of the Council's study sessions. (CA 29.10a) <br /> <br />ORAL COMMUNICATION <br />NEW ADMINISTRATIVE AIDE <br /> <br />The Mayor introduced the <br />new Administrative Aide, <br />Hazel Pritchett. (CA S0) <br /> <br />ORAL COMMUNICATION Councilman Yamamoto stated <br />POLICE AND FIRE DEPARTMENTS that he wanted to commend <br /> the Police Department for <br /> their recent reorganiza- <br />tion and the promotions that had been given; that the promotions <br />were well deserved; that he had observed certain training and <br />exercises within the Fire Department; and that the people of <br />Santa Ana were fortunate in having these Police and Fire Depart- <br />ments protecting them. <br /> <br />The City Manager stated that the Fire Department had successfully <br />reached out into the schools to get youth involved in work <br />experience; that the Police Department was now ready to do the <br />same. (CA 4?; CA 64) <br /> <br />RECESS At 5:00 P.M., the meeting <br /> was recessed to 7:30 P.M., <br /> at which time it was <br /> reconvened with all <br />Council Members present. Following the Pledge of Allegiance <br />to the Flag, the Invocation was given by Reverend Charles Rose, <br />of the Grand Avenue United Methodist Church.
