RECESS <br /> <br />P.M. with all Council members <br />Patterson. <br /> <br />present <br /> <br />At 4:30 P.M., Council <br />recessed to Executive <br />Session; the meeting <br />reconvened at 7:30 <br />except Mayor Jerry M. <br /> <br />Following the Pledge of Allegiance, the Invocation was given <br />by the Reverend Everett Williams. (CA 80.17) <br /> <br />COMMUNITY SPOTLIGHT <br /> <br />been invited to give a presentation. <br /> <br />The Mayor acknowledged <br />Johnson Chapel A.M.E. <br />(African Methodist <br />Episcopal), who had <br /> <br />Rev. Everett Williams described some of the non-profit activi- <br />ties of the group at Southwest Community Center, 1601 W. Second <br />Street; Central Community Center, 2215 W. McFadden; Jerome <br />Center, 2115 W. McFadden; including counseling to the needy, <br />job referrals, youth and senior citizen activities, Minority <br />Recruitment and Affirmative Action Programs assistance; active <br />participation in City programs to combat physical blight, <br />crime and prostitution; stated that the group urgently hopes <br />to persuade the Courts to apply more stringent measures in <br />criminal matters; and introduced members of the organization <br />who were present. (CA 9.3) <br /> <br />PUBLIC HEARING Vice Mayor Evans opened <br />STREET VACATION the public hearing on <br />ALLEY NORTH OF FRUIT STREET the proposed vacation of <br /> the alley located north <br />of Fruit Street between Fruit Street and Santa Ana Boulevard <br />approximately 125 feet west of Lincoln Avenue. <br /> <br />The Clerk's file included the affidavit of publication of <br />Resolution No. 73-146, declaring the intention of the Council <br />to vacate the alley and setting the date for the public hearing <br />on the matter as well as the affidavit of posting the notices <br />executed by the Director of Public Works. There were no written <br />communications. <br /> <br />The Director of Public Works displayed a map of the area on the <br />screen, stating that the adjacent property owner had requested <br />the alley abandonment because it is no longer used for public <br />purposes; and that the access rights at the alley entrance have <br />been reserved by the City. <br /> <br />There were no proponents or opponents and the Vice Mayor closed <br />the hearing. <br /> <br />RESOLUTION 74-4, A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY <br />OF SANTA ANA ORDERING THE VACATION OF THE ALLEY LOCATED NORTH <br />OF FRUIT STREET BETWEEN FRUIT STREET AND SANTA ANA BOULEVARD <br />APPROXIMATELY 125 FEET WEST OF LINCOLN AVENUE was adopted on <br />motion of Councilman Garthe, seconded by Councilman Markel, and <br />carried on the following vote: <br /> <br />AYES: Garthe, Markel, Yamamoto, Evans, Ward, Griset <br /> <br />NOES: None <br /> <br />ABSENT: Patterson (CA 14) <br /> <br />CITY COUNCIL MINUTES <br /> <br />16 <br /> <br />JANUARY 7, 1974 <br /> <br /> <br />
