Councilman Markel introduced Reverend Glen McFarland, Santa <br />Ana Reformed Presbyterian Church, who gave the Invocation. <br />(CA 80.17) <br /> <br />Service Unit 1, Girl Scouts, led the Pledge of Allegiance. <br />(CA 9.10) <br /> <br />PROCLAMATION <br />PAUL CORNISH <br /> <br />Lenita Lane, recognizing his <br />to physical fitness. (CA 46) <br /> <br /> Councilman Markel <br /> presented a Proclama- <br /> tion honoring Mr. Paul <br />Cornish, 2221 East <br />bicycling feats and dedication <br /> <br />COMMUNITY SPOTLIGHT <br />KIWANIS CLUB OF <br />NORTH SANTA ANA <br /> <br />Club of North Santa Ana, who in turn, <br />of the Club. Mr. Bob Maynard spoke, <br /> <br /> Mayor Patterson, who <br /> arrived at 7:50, intro- <br /> duced Mr. Don Miller, <br /> President of Kiwanis <br /> introduced other members <br />telling of the Club's <br /> <br />activities with the Youth of Santa Ana, especially the high <br />school students, in sports and hospital work. <br /> <br />Mayor Patterson presented the organization with a plaque <br />in recognition of outstanding community service. (CA 9.3) <br /> <br />BICENTENNIAL COMMITTEE Mr. Gene Moriarty, <br />REPORT Chairman of tke City's <br /> Bicentennial Committee, <br /> requested Council to <br />approve the Bicentennial Community Application certifying <br />that the Santa Aha Chamber of Commerce Bicentennial Committee <br />has been duly created as a central Bicentennial planning <br />and coordinating group. He stated that the City's Bicenten- <br />nial Program will fulfill the requirements in three broad <br />categories: (1) HERITAGE '76 (Heritage Square), (2) FESTIVAL <br />U.S.A. (Meet the Americans Program), and (3) HORIZONS (His- <br />torical Education through the Schools). He outlined the <br />programs planned, stating that they fulfill the State and <br />Federal requirements. He said that the Committee will continue <br />to develop better programs and anyone who wants to participate <br />should call him. <br /> <br />Council approved the application on motion of Councilman <br />Griset, seconded by Councilman Yamamoto, and unanimously <br />carried (5-0). (CA 42.5) <br /> <br />PUBLIC HEARING <br />VACATION OF ALLEY <br />BETWEEN CENTRAL AVENUE <br />& HEMLOCK WAY <br /> <br />August 19, 1974, at the <br /> <br />request <br /> <br /> The Public Hearing to <br /> consider Vacation of <br /> Alley between Central <br /> Avenue and Hemlock <br /> Way was continued to <br />of Staff, on motion of <br /> <br />Councilman Yamamoto, seconded by Councilman Griset, and <br />unanimously carried (5-0).
