AVAILABLE MATERIALS <br />FOR COMMISSION <br />USE <br /> <br />through the office of the Assistant <br />Relations. <br /> <br /> Materials are available <br /> for Commission use, such <br /> as tapes, meeting rooms, <br />instructional materials, <br />to City Manager Community <br /> <br />Plans for Commission bus field trips, and other non-budgeted <br />items, should come before Council for approval. <br /> <br />SIZE OF COMMISSION The size of the <br /> Commission established <br /> by City Council Reso- <br /> lution No. 74-4 <br />(fifteen members) has real merit. Maintaining full member- <br />ship is a concern of the Commission. Commission should give <br />Council recommendations on appointments. Application blanks <br />for prospective new members may be obtained from the office <br />of the Clerk of the Council, and completed applications <br />should be returned to the Clerk's office for file. As <br />vacancies occur, Council can review the applications on <br />file, arrange for interviews, and fill vacancies more promptly. <br /> <br />COUNCIL AGENDA Assistant to City <br />ITEMS SIGNIFICANT TO Manager - Community <br />HUMAN RELATIONS COMMISSION Relations, Staff, or <br /> the Mayor's office <br />can supply Council Agenda information concerning items of <br />significance to Human Relations Commission for perusal, <br />evaluation and recommendation to Council. <br /> <br />ORGANIZATION OF The City Manager <br />COMMISSION questioned the <br /> committee system <br /> that was set up by <br />Commission at its inception. It was his opinion that it <br />would be difficult to sustain a subcommittee system of work- <br />ing laymen when the Commission as a whole is still trying <br />to meet once or twice a month. <br /> <br />GENERAL POLICY <br /> <br />No. 70-4 as follows: <br /> <br />The role of the Human <br />Relations Commission <br />is set forth fully in <br />City Council Resolution <br /> <br />to cooperate with and assist those other indivi- <br />duals and community agencies so engaged in <br />serving human needs and in fostering mutual <br />understanding among all persons and groups; <br /> <br />(z) <br /> <br />to recommend to the City Council the enactment <br />of any required legislation which has as its <br />purpose the improvement of the human environ- <br />ment within the City; <br /> <br />(3) to cooperate with appropriate City departments <br /> in identifying human relations problems; <br /> <br />(4) <br /> <br />to receive complaints by its citizens of <br />possible tensions or practices of discrimination <br />or acts of prejudice against any person or group <br />because of age, sex, race, religion, national <br />origin or cultural background; <br /> <br />CITY COUNCIL MINUTES 319 AUGUST 26, 1974 <br /> <br /> <br />
