Approve a Funding Analysis with a total estimated construction cost <br />of $2,306,600. <br /> <br />DISCUSSION <br /> <br />The City has submitted applications to the California Department of <br />Transportation (Caltrans) under the Highway Bridge Replacement Program <br />and received approval for funding to perform the seismic retrofit of <br />three bridges over the Santa Ana River. Caltrans is providing funding for <br />both the design and construction phases of the proj ect. This proj ect <br />involves First Street, Fifth Street and McFadden Avenue Bridges over the <br />Santa Ana River (Exhibit 1). The proposed retrofit improvements will <br />enhance public safety over the bridges. The project will include various <br />measures to minimize effect of a seismic event on each bridge. The <br />measures include tying the bridge girders together with steel cable <br />retainers, placement of additional piles at the bridge abutments, and <br />construction of new pile caps. <br /> <br />23A-1 <br />
