CA 65.7 <br /> <br />OLD CITY HALL After discussion, <br />AGREEMENT it was moved by <br />REFERRAL ITEM 171 Councilman Bricken, <br /> seconded by Coun- <br />cilman Markel and unanimously approved to instruct the <br />Del Pueblo Management and Development Company to provide <br />the Council with a proposal for waiving or novating the <br />City's right to repurchase the Old City Hall, as provided <br />in their agreement with the City, and that ~tem #171 Be <br />deleted from the Council Referral Summary. A~74-.87 <br /> A-73~lg <br /> <br />17TH STREET MEDIAN In response to <br /> Council's determina- <br /> tion at its meeting <br /> of February 24, 1975 <br />to reconsider its decision to install medians in 17th <br />Street between Ross and Main Streets, the staff presented <br />alternate plans for consideration; Plan A has no additional <br />street openings, Plan B has a street opening at Sycamore, <br />Plan C has a street opening at Durant. The Director of <br />Public Works stated that he had found one study, done in <br />Texas regarding the effect of medians on business in which <br />it was stated that there was some business loss, but not <br />all chargeable to the construction of the median, that <br />other factors were found to be causative; that there was <br />no advantage to being located near a median opening,~ losses <br />in left turns were offset by right turning.traffic, and by, <br />changes in routes developed. <br /> <br />Councilman Garthe stated that he had talked to tko business <br />people on 17th Street; that they are not interested in a <br />median; that the business people are willing to plant trees <br />in the sidewalk area; and that he had changed his mind on <br />this matter. <br /> <br />Councilman Markel stated that he was ready and willing to <br />advocate the approval of no median. <br /> <br />Councilman Griset expressed his support for Plan C in the <br />interest of safety. <br /> <br />Councilman Yamamoto agreed with Councilman Griset, and said <br />he would vote for the median (Plan C~ in the interest of <br />safety of the driving citizens and for estketic reasons. <br /> <br />Mr. Wade Herrin, 1505 N. Baker, advised Council that the <br />Fire Department is totally opposed to tko median plan) he <br />would like to have Chief ~udd invited to a meeting to express <br />his opinion; Mr. Herrin stated tkat he was a member of the <br />Council when the General Plan for the City. was adopted, and <br />that it was understood at that time that the specific pro,. <br />posals would be heard and decided as they~ came up, He <br />reported that the whole length of Convention Way in Las <br />Vegas is double striped with allowance for left turns, and <br />that the Police officers stated that there were no problems, <br /> <br />Councilman Bricken asked how beautification of the street <br />could be achieved without going the median route. <br /> <br />CITY COUNCIL MINUTES <br /> <br />93 MARCH 10, 1975 <br /> <br /> <br />
