The motion was seconded by <br />Councilman Evans and carried (6-1) with Councilman Yamamoto <br />dissenting. <br /> <br />Councilman Bricken moved to delete the construction of a median <br />from the plans for widening Seventeenth Street. The motion <br />was seconded by Councilman Evans and carried (6-1) with Coun- <br />cilman Yamamoto dissenting. CA 29.14 <br /> <br />BID AWARD Council awarded the <br />PROJECT 1345 bid for Project 1545, <br />WIDENING OF i?TH STREET Widen Seventeenth <br /> Street from Ross to <br />Main Street, to Mark Company, Santa Aha, in the total amount <br />of $120,885.50 including the base bid and Alternate A (with- <br />out Median island), on motion of Councilman Bricken, seconded <br />by Councilman Evans and carried (6-1) with Councilman Yamamoto <br />dissenting. CA 89F <br /> <br />LINCOLN AVENUE Summary reports <br />BIKE LANE regarding the bike <br /> lane, prepared by <br /> the Director of <br />Public Works and the Director of Planning, dated April 9 <br />and April 10, respectively, were provided for. Council and <br />copies had been previously given to Mrs. Tucker. <br /> <br />Mrs. Anne Tucker, 1019 E. Catalina,.requested Council to <br />reconsider the Lincoln Avenue Bike Lane in the interests <br />of safety because of the heavy traffic volume. She pointed <br />out that bike lanes were expensive to establish, and that <br />the one on Lincoln Avenue did not go anywhere. <br /> <br />Mrs. Janice Boer, 912 North Lowell Street, also stressed the <br />importance of safety in creating bike lanes, citing the <br />Koss Street lane as a poor example because it is very narrow <br />and the b'icyclist is often forced into the street traffic <br />areas. <br /> <br />Mrs. Donna Peters, 1019 East Avalon, stated that her house <br />is on the corner of Avalon and Lincoln; that the road is not <br />wide enough for even one bike lane, yet there are two; and <br />that the street does not provide any safety for the bike <br />rider. <br /> <br />Councilman Ortiz moved to reconsider the Lincoln Avenue bike <br />trail and to set the matter for public hearing.
