ORAL COMMUNICATION On' the motion of <br />CARLOS FONSECA Councilman Ward, <br />NEWHOPE FIRE STATION:' seconded by Councilman <br /> Evans, and carried (7-0), <br />Mr. Carlos Fonseca's information and suggestions were received <br />and referred to staff for investigation and report. <br /> <br />Mr. Fenseca, 1722 West 9th Street, appeared as a: spokesman <br />for a committee of citizens interested in the development <br />of a community center in the Santa Anita Area. He stated <br />that Santa Anita is one of the poverty, blighted areas of <br />Santa Ana, and in great need of a community center; and that <br />his committee recommends that the people of the area be <br />responsible for the direction and operation of the center. <br />He was accompanied by Mr. Emile Hernandez, who circulated <br />pictures of the area to the Council members. <br /> <br />Councilman Yamamoto stated that recommendations.of this <br />type should be properly directed to the Human Relations <br />Commission, and presented to Council with the Commission's <br />appraisal of the needs of the community.,.vi$ a vis-the <br />recommendations. <br /> <br />Councilman Evans added that there isn't:one Councilman who <br />isn't interested in that community:, and that:the lease of <br />the Fire Station from the County had been approved at the <br />afternoon-Council meeting. <br /> <br />Mr. Manuel Rede, Community Relations Director, stated that <br />the Human Relations Commission had: already prepared a report <br />for Council on the matter for presentation at a later date; <br />and that the Human Relations Commission is well aware of the <br />position of Mr. Fonseca and his group. CA 151.6 <br /> <br />ORAL COMMUNICATION <br />"GARDENS FOR ALL" <br /> <br />article supplied by Councilman Evans, <br />staff for evaluation and report on <br />Evans, seconded by Councilman Ward, <br /> <br /> The concept of <br /> "Gardens for All": <br /> as outlined in a <br /> Reader's Digest <br /> was referred to <br />the motion of Councilman <br /> and unanimously carried. <br /> <br />Councilman Hvans stated that the program involved the use <br />of City-owned property made available to various groups for <br />gardens; that the City has some property for future develop- <br />ment that could be used for gardens-until needed for. City <br />use.
