Councilman Ward arrived at 4:40 P.M. <br /> <br />Item No. 9, Minor Capital Items. Councilman Evans' motion, <br />seconded by Councilman Bricken, to eliminate a number of <br />minor capital items, each less than $5,000, carried on the <br />following roll call vote: <br /> <br />AYES: Evans, Bricken, Ortiz, Yamamoto <br /> <br />NOES: Garthe, Ward <br /> <br />ABSENT: Brandt <br /> <br />Item No. 5, Curbs and Sidewalks. Councilman Evans' motion, <br />seconded by Councilman Ortiz, to cut back $197,000 program <br />of curbs and sidewalks by replacing only for tree damage at <br />high pedestrian locations [eliminating 4 positions), failed <br />to carry on the following roll call vote: <br /> <br />AYES: Evans, Ortiz <br /> <br />NOES: Bricken, Yamamoto, Garthe, Ward <br /> <br />ABSENT: Brandt <br /> <br />Item No. 5, Curbs and Gutters. Councilman Yamamoto's motion <br />to cut back 1/2 of the $197,000 for curb and sidewalk repair, <br />seconded by Councilman Evans, failed to carry on the following <br />tie roll call vote: <br /> <br />AYES: Yamamoto, Evans, Ortiz <br /> <br />NOES: Bricken, Garthe, Ward <br /> <br />ABSENT: Brandt <br /> <br />Item No. 1, Street Lighting. Councilman Evans' motion, to <br />reduce the $934,000 program of ornamental and Edison street <br />lighting by 50%, possibly eliminating all but lights at <br />intersections, and perhaps let voters vote on a special <br />lighting district tax, died for lack of a second. <br /> <br />Item No. 2, Fire Company. Councilman Evans' motion, seconded <br />by Councilman Ortiz, to eliminate one truck company of 15 <br />positions at Station 7, amounting to $278,000, failed on the <br />following roll call vote: <br /> <br />AYES: Ortiz <br /> <br />NOES: Bricken, Yamamoto, Garthe, Evans, Ward <br /> <br />ABSENT: Brandt <br /> <br />Item No. 3, Capital Reserve.
