A.A. #119 Appropriation Adjust- <br />NEWHOPE STREET BIKE TRAIL merit #119 to provide <br />APPROVED funds for the Newhope <br /> Street Bike Trail <br />installation was approved unanimously (7:0), on the motion <br />of Councilman Evans, seconded by Councilman Ward. CA 65.3 <br /> <br />ORAL COMMUNICATION After discussion of <br />CHARTER REVIEW COMMITTEE the recommendations <br /> made by Mayor Garthe <br /> for members of the <br />Charter Review Committee, it was unanimously informally <br />decided that the Committee would be composed of seven members, <br />one member recommended by each Councilman. CA 129 <br /> <br />ORAL COMMUNICATION Councilman Brandt <br />PROPOSED CULTURAL CENTER reported that he had <br />FUNDING RESEARCH visited the cities <br /> of San Jose and <br />Concord in California, and Tucson, Phoenix and Scottsdale <br />in Arizona, to see the cultural centers built in those <br />cities, and to research the funding and development methods <br />used. He stated that even though most of the facilities <br />operated at a loss the first few years, that the peripheral <br />development of hotels, restaurants and shops in the areas <br />around the various centers was impressive, quite desirable, <br />and profitable; that the funding method was revenue bonds <br />issued by joint powers, such as the City and the Redevelop- <br />ment Agency; and that he would prepare a written report <br />for Council review. <br /> <br />Councilman Bricken suggested that the proposed facilities <br />be multi-purpose and include an Olympic-size swimming pool <br />and areas for other sporting events, as well as cultural <br />activities; and that Orange County has many outstanding <br />athletes and could benefit from a facility for presentation <br />of athletic events because of widespread interest in sports <br />events. CA 52.8A <br /> <br />ORAL COM~UNICATION Councilman Ortiz' <br />CRIME PREVENTION COMMISSION request for a report <br />RECOMMENDATION REQUESTED on the status of the <br /> Citizens Crime Pre- <br />vention Commission resulted in his motion, seconded by <br />Councilman Ward, and carried unanimously (7:0), that Staff <br />prepare a recommendation to continue the Citizens Crime <br />Prevention Commission for a specific purpose, or to dis- <br />miss the Commission with appropriate commendation to its <br />members for service. CA 47.8 <br /> <br />ORAL COMMUNICATION Mr. Rudy Montejano, <br />BOXING MATCH AT UNION HALL Attorney for the <br />REFERRED promoter of a boxing <br /> event scheduled for <br />Wednesday, February 18, 1976 at the Laborers Union Hall, <br />1500 East Chestnut, asked that a temporary permit be issued <br />for the event due to the time and financial investment in <br />the event, pending processing of an application to the <br />Planning Commission to allow similar events at that location. <br />Mr. Montejano was referred to Staff to work out a solution <br />that would be satisfactory to all parties involved, includ- <br />ing adjacent landowners.
