SUPPORT FOR URBAN PARKLAND The Mayor was requested <br /> SENATE BILL 174 to direct a letter to <br /> LETTER REQUESTED the appropriate legis- <br /> lators indicating <br />Council support of Senate Bill 174, recommended by the Board <br />of Recreation and Parks in May, 1975, on motion of Councilman <br />Ward, seconded by Councilman Evans, and carried (6:1), with <br />Councilman Brandt dissenting. Bob Gresham, Recreation and <br />Parks Director, said that Santa Aha could receive $225,000 <br />a year for five years if the City matched 25% or $75,000. <br />Councilman Brandt remarked that he is doubtful that the City <br />can afford the matching funds. CA 57 <br /> <br />VIETNAMESE TRANSLATION OF The interim report <br />"KNOW YOUR RIGHTS" from Staff regarding <br />REFERRAL ITEM #222 - FILED the proposed Vietnamese <br /> translation of the <br />"Know Your Rights" booklet dated March 30, 1976, was received <br />and ordered filed, on the unanimously approved (7:0) motion <br />of Councilman Ward, seconded by Councilman Evans. <br /> <br />Howard Way, of the Santa Ana College West Chestnut facility <br />adult night school, voiced the opinion that the Vietnamese <br />are good students and would appreciate the "Know Your Rights" <br />information. <br /> <br />Councilman Bricken suggested that the need for translation is <br />diminishing; that English is still a prerequisite for citizen- <br />ship, and therefore a subject which is being studied and rapidly <br />mastered by many Vietnamese; and that the'proposal has lost <br />much of its timeliness since it was first considered by Council <br />(on November 17, 1975). CA 131.1 <br /> <br />BALLOT PROPOSITIONS Council discussed <br />PRIMARY ELECTION JUNE 8 the League of <br />NO ACTION California Cities <br /> summary analysis <br />of the fifteen propositions to be on the primary election <br />ballot June 8, 1976, and it was the general consensus that <br />many of the propositions do not affect cities, and that <br />Council would not take positions at this time, CA <br /> <br />68 <br /> <br />CETA ACTIVITY REPORT The status report dated <br />FISCAL YEAR 1975-76 March 23, 1976 from <br />FILED the Deputy City <br /> Manager Community <br />Services regarding CETA activity was received and ordered <br />filed, on the unanimously approved (7;0) motion of Councilman <br />Evans, seconded by Councilman Yamamoto. CA 131.11 <br /> <br />FEDERAL DISTRICT COURT Council received and <br />REPORT & BUDGET REQUEST ordered filed the <br />FILED memorandum dated <br /> -' March 25, 1976 from <br />Tom McMichael entitled "Progress Report and Budget Request <br />for 1976-77", and postponed consideration of the Budget <br />request to be dishussed with the Annual Budget in June, <br />on the motion of Councilman Evans, seconded by Councilman <br />Brandt, and unanimously (7:0) carried.
