Madden, Presi- <br />STUDENT HOSTELS CONCEPT dent of American Student <br />ENDORSED; PROGRAM REVIEW REQUESTED Hostels, 1023 Hilgard <br /> Avenue, Los Angeles, <br />requested Council endorsement of a program to utilize the <br />Santa Ana YMCA as a hostel (discount lodging facility) for <br />travelers to promote foreign and domestic travel. He stated <br />that his non-profit charitable corporation intends to apply for <br />a federal grant on August 15 to promote foreign tourism in the <br />U.S., including Santa Ana and Orange County, utilizing the <br />hostel concept. <br /> <br />Councilman Bricken moved to endorse the concept of student hos- <br />tels in principle for this community, and instruct Staff to take <br />the opportunity of the next 30 days to review specifically the <br />components of this particular proposal. The motion was seconded <br />by Councilman Ward, and carried 5:1, with Mayor Evans dissenting. <br /> CA 140.3 <br /> <br />ORAL CO~B4UNICATION Councilman Brandt reminded <br />ANTIQUE CAR PARADE Council that the Antique <br />PRESENTATION AUTHORIZED Car Parade was scheduled <br /> for Saturday, August 12, <br />and he encouraged each of them to immediately communicate with <br />the Public Information Officer regarding particpation. <br /> <br />Councilman Brandt's motion to authorize the Mayor or a member <br />of Council to present keys to the City to the Grand Marshalls <br />of the Parade, the Mills Brothers, in appreciation for their <br />participation, was seconded by Councilman Bricken and carried <br />unanimously 6:0.
