At 8:24 p.m., the Council recessed and reconvened at 8:50 p.m., with al!
members present except Acosta.

Councilmembers then commented on the need to identify common goals and
objectives of the City and School Board, with Councilmember Bricken specifying
needs to develop an Education Element as part of the City's general and
long-range plans, to solve the overcrowding problems at Santa Aha High School,
and to improve access to that facility. Councilmember Griset suggested that
both the Council and School Board relinquish roles as "guardians" and take on
the role of "guides" to the future.

The City Manager identified three specific tasks for the Task Force
including the traffic situation at Santa Ana High School, the Education
Element including the need to define the scope of work through the services
of a consultant, and the necessity of seeking "1990" solutions to the current
problems facing the School District.

At 9:11 p.m., the meeting was adjourned to 12:00 noon, July 5, Room 147, City
Council Chambers, 22 Civic Center Plaza.

~l~ice C.
