MII~JTES OF THE ~ MEgTING <br />OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />SAN~A AlgA, CALIFflRNIA <br /> <br />January 16, 1984 <br /> <br />The meeting was called to order at 2:10 p.m. by Mayor R. W. Luxembourger <br />in Room 147, City Council Chambers, 22 Civic Center Plaza. Councilm~mbers <br />present wore Daniel E. Griset, P. Lee Johnson, Patricia A. McGuigan, <br />Dan Young and Mayor Luxembourger. Also present were Interim City Manager <br />Rex Swanson, City Attorney Edward J. Cooper and Assistant Clerk of the <br />Council Nancy Byron Dean, as well as members of the City's Executive <br />Staff and the press. Councilmembers Gordon Bricken and John Acosta joined <br />the meeting at 2:11 p.m., and 2:14 p.m., respectively. <br /> <br />RFP - PRIVATE PARAMEDIC SERVICE <br /> <br />The Fire Chief reported that resulting from Council action, the Fire <br />Department distributed requests for proposals to provide staffing for <br />reactivation of the City's fifth paramedic unit, and that three proposals <br />wore received and evaluated by a review panel. The Chief provided Council <br />with a written report containing the panel's evaluation results, stating <br />that none of the three had met the RFP requirements as written. He then <br />answered questions from Council about the paramedic program. <br /> <br />Lengthy discussion ensued regarding a yearly subscription program for <br />paramedic services to the private sector which was being used by some <br />cities. <br /> <br />MOTION: <br /> <br />Direct staff to prepare further data which would explore the <br />possibility of a paramedic subscription service and an analysis <br />ofthe economic aspects of paramedic service, and report to <br />Council in 30 days. <br /> <br />MO~ION: Young S~COSD: McGuigan <br /> <br />VO~E: AYES: <br /> NOES: <br /> ABSENT: <br /> <br />Acosta, Bricken, Griset, McGuigan, Luxembourger, Young <br />None <br />Johnson FILE 71~10 <br /> <br />pISAST~ PREPAREDNESS PLAN <br /> <br />The Fire Chief provided written answers to the Disaster Preparedness <br />Policy Checklist for Elected Officials which was distributed by the <br />National League of Cities. He stated that currently the City does not <br />have a designated Disaster Preparedness person but rather a sworn Fire <br />Prevention Officer was assigned towork on the City's Plan, and there is <br />currently no budget for Disaster Preparedness. He said that the State <br />will not fund this purpose. Council requested that the City's plan be <br />reviewed to determine w~lch direction should be taken. <br /> <br />Council rec~ested that the subject of terrorism and the City's approach to <br />handling this problembe set for thework study session on April 2, 1984. <br /> <br />CITY COONCILMINUTES 17 JANUARY 16, 1984 <br /> <br /> <br />
