NO. 04-083) <br /> <br />APPROVED <br />o As Recommended <br />o As Amended <br />o Ordinance on 1 st Reading <br />o Ordinance on 2nd Reading <br />o Implementing Resolution <br />o Set Public Hearing For <br /> <br />~A' <br />/ " //7 a"~ ____ <br /> <br />CONTINUED TO <br /> <br />~ <br /> <br />FILE NUMBER <br /> <br />CITY MANAGER <br /> <br />RECOMMENDED ACTION <br /> <br />Renew the contracts for the purchase of furniture based upon the U.S. <br />Communities and County of Orange contracts for a total aggregate amount <br />not to exceed $339,000 with the following vendors: <br /> <br />Haworth, Inc. <br />Knoll <br />School Specialty <br />Vireo <br /> <br />Herman Miller, Inc. <br />McMahan Desk <br />Steelcase (Tangram Interiors) <br /> <br />DISCUSSION <br /> <br />On August 16, 2004, the City Council accepted a $15 million Urban Area <br />Security Initiative grant from the federal Department of Homeland <br />Security, through the State of California, Office of Homeland Security. <br />This initiative was designed to enhance the domestic preparedness of <br />urban areas by ensuring that all emergency first responders have <br />adequate equipment and systems to prevent, respond to and recover from <br />acts of terrorism. The grant provides total reimbursement to local <br />agencies for equipment purchases approved and authorized by the Office <br />of Disaster Preparedness. <br /> <br />In order to improve the City of Santa Ana's ability to prevent, plan <br />for, respond to, and recover from a terrorism incident, the Emergency <br />Operations Center (EOC) will be enhanced. In addition, the City's EOC <br />will serve as the back-up EOC for Orange County's EOC at Loma Ridge. <br />The enhancement includes the purchase of various furniture items such <br />as desks, tables, modular workstations, partitions, and ergonomic <br />chairs. <br /> <br />22E-1 <br /> <br />CS 383 <br /> <br />
