CITY OF SANA ANA <br />COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT BLOCK GRANT <br />2005-2006 <br />Scope of Work (continued) <br />understanding of community needs and methods to incorporate into training workshops; and, <br />Provide civic leaders presentations and project opportunities for youth participation. <br />• GOAL -PROVIDE CIVIC VOL UNTEER OPPORTUNITIES <br />To present the concept and value of volunteerism and its impact on the community, the self growth <br />of the young volunteer and the encompassing economical advantages to the organizations/city by <br />volunteer assistance. <br />* Services: Information on volunteer programs and specific community services provided by <br />Santa Ana; Learning of the cost saving to the city and its organization when citizens become <br />volunteers. <br />As part of the program's curriculum, Youth Leadership Teams will be formed to review study and <br />participate on community/organizational projects and/or programs. Rewards will be two fold: <br />applying their newly learned leadership skills and the enriched experience of volunteer work for <br />their City of Santa Ana. <br />* Action/Tasks-Ongoing Maintain networking efforts with community and non-profit <br />organization; Identify specific needs and projects available for youths to assist and gain the self <br />rewarding experience of volunteer work. <br />• GOAL - PROVIDE SCHOLARSHIPS <br />To award ten student Latino Youth scholarships. <br />* Services: Ten Latino Students will be awarded $1000.00 youth scholarship. <br />* Action/Tasks-Ongoing: Raise the funds needed to present the youth scholarship. <br />• GOAL - PROVIDE A LATINO YOUTH LEADERSHIP Experience <br />To provide leadership training program with monthly seminars and a weekend sustainability retreat <br />for the community's Latino Youths. To present the theory and principles of leadership practices <br />and to apply workable application of learned skills to community projects and/or issues. <br />* Services The students will attend ten monthly seminars covering leadership principles, history <br />of Santa Ana, community and local government, working with diverse communities, team building <br />and the importance of education. They will form leadership teams and be assigned community <br />projects to review and study issues/resolutions as well as identifying how they as "volunteer <br />leaders" can contribute. <br />
