CITY OF SANA ANA <br />COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT BLOCK GRANT <br />2005-2006 <br />Scope of Work (continued) <br />The "Leadership in Action" is a year-round program designed to support the positive development <br />of young Latino people of Santa Ana/Orange County; to acquire the skills and competencies to be <br />full, productive, active citizens of their communities; and, equally importantly, to learn the skills to <br />become action -motivated leaders. The program will impact one or more of the following areas of <br />their young lives: knowledge, attitudes, leadership skills and status. The focus of the program is <br />also based on the "positive outcomes" in the leadership growth of: confidence, character, <br />competence and community connection. <br />The "Leadership in Action" program and `Empowering Future Latino Leaders" conference will <br />conduct student -training workshops presented by educators, elected officials, community activist <br />and corporate/business leaders. In addition, there will be career/job fair, exhibits, guest speakers <br />and a graduation celebration, and recognition reception. <br />• GOAL -PROMOTE HIGHER EDUCATION AND EDUCATIONAL EXCELLENCE. <br />To provide a venue where the Latino Youth citizens can attend a comprehensive conference <br />designed to _promote the need for higher education by providing the necessary tools, resources and <br />educational opportunities. <br />* Services: Interactive workshops, on -site college recruiters, on -site educators, informational <br />literature, educational presentations, job fairs and student scholarships. <br />* Action/Tasks-Ongoing: Collaborate with school/college educators and administrative staff to <br />identify specific educational components for the conference; acquire informational literature on <br />educational resources including the "How To's" for college and scholarship application. <br />• GOAL -DEVELOP LEADF,RSHIP SKILLS AND THE IMPORTANCE OF COMMUNITY <br />INVOL VEMENT <br />To develop the leadership potential by strengthening students' knowledge of city, state and local <br />politics; Inspiring them to realize their academic and professional potential through individual and <br />group interaction with business, community and political leaders; and, Encouraging students to <br />continue their education by attending college and providing them with the resources and <br />information they need to ensure success at the post secondary level. <br />* Services: Interactive Leadership Workshops, guest lectures by community leaders and <br />professionals and seminar presentations of best practice "leadership skills"; Forming youth leader <br />teams to participate in community projects providing students with hands-on application of learned <br />leadership skills; and Provide a weekend "Sustainable Retreat" to review and reinforced the <br />program experience and the leadership skills attained. <br />* Action/Tasks-Ongoing: Design and present action -driven lesson plan on workable concepts of <br />effective leadership practices; Collaborate with business leaders/officials to gain a better <br />
