Conducting 25 Moving Violator pedestrian safety presentations at schools and
community events by June 30, 2006. Each presentation will have two Moving
Violators actors performing an interactive skit. For the school events, the Moving
Violators will perform a pedestrian safety oriented interactive skit with the
students. The school skits may be performed in an assembly. Maricich &
Associates will do all the necessary coordination with the schools and other
entities to schedule the Moving Violator safety presentations.
• Providing collateral material, including stickers and pencils, for at least 500
students at each of the 25 events. Each student will receive at least one pencil
and one sticker. Additional collateral material may be considered. Maricich &
Associates will keep track of the number of collateral materials or informational
brochures that are handed out to students and/or the community during events.
Developing a fact sheet to hand out to the students of up to 5 classes per school
(assuming each class has 40 students) at each school site that has a Moving
Violator appearance. This fact sheet will be used for outreach and will be
required to be signed by parents, family and friends. A special reward for
students, such as a ruler with a pedestrian safety message on it, will be produced
as an additional incentive for the program.
• Preparing an instructional packet to hand out to the participating schools. One
packet per school will be produced. It will explain what the event is all about and
activities individual classes may do before the presentation.
Coordinating, in some instances, the Moving Violator pedestrian safety
presentations with other activities such as placement of a radar trailer, police
enforcement, and Neighborhood Association pedestrian- and traffic-safety
campaigns. Maricich & Associates will coordinate with the neighborhood
associations and may provide additional collateral material for at least 200
residents from each of 25 neighborhood associations.
• Coordinating and conducting two youth-led pedestrian safety projects that may
be developed jointly between Maricich ii Associates and possibly the City Youth
Commission by December 31, 2005.
• Developing apedestrian-safety coloring book that explains common unsafe
behaviors by pedestrians and motorists. Maricich & Associates will provide
20,000 coloring books and crayons that will be distributed at Moving Violator
events and community events by May 30, 2005.
• Coordinating and conducting 4 pedestrian safety events at senior centers and or
senior organizations. These events will be coordinated with the personnel from
the Senior Centers by December 31, 2005.
• Incorporating pedestrian safety murals at two schools as part of the Moving
Violator program. One of the murals will be used as kick-off to the Moving
Violator Campaign. The murals will be developed by holding an art contest for
students in which they can submit pedestrian safety concerns they see on their
way to or from school. One or several entries will be selected to develop the
mural. An artist will trace the mural, but students will actually paint the mural.
5
