MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING <br />OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />SANTA ANA, CALIFORNIA <br /> <br />May 20, 1985 <br /> <br />The meeting was called to order at 1:20 p.m., by Mayor Daniel E. <br />Griset, in Ro~m 147, City Council Chambers, 22 Civic Center Plaza. <br />Councilmembers present were Wilson B. Hart, R. W. Luxembourger, <br />Patricia McGuigan, Dan Young and Mayor Griset. Also present were City <br />Manager Robert C. Bobb, City Attorney ~dward J. Cooper and Assistant <br />Clerk of the Council William D. Baron, as well as menbers of the <br />City's Executive Management staff and the press. Councilmembers John <br />Acosta and P. Lee Johnson joined the meeting at 1:30 p.m. and <br />1:32 p.m., respectively. <br /> <br />WORK STUDY SESSION <br /> <br />Rose Parade Float Status Re~ort <br /> <br />The City Manager introduced Mr. Hal Gosse, the Chair of the Committee <br />for the City's 1986 Rose Parade entry. <br /> <br />Mr. Gosse informed Council that the 1986 Rose Parade th~me would be <br />"Celebration of Laughter," and the suggested thsme for the City's entry <br />would be "Friday on the Freeway." <br /> <br />Artist renditions of the proposed depiction of the "Friday on the <br />Free~ay" theme were presented. Mr. Gosse explained two lanes of the <br />Santa Aha freeway would be depicted, congested with cars and trucks <br />representing a cross section of Southern California people and <br />life-styles on a 65' X 18' float, whose construction costs were pro- <br />jected to be approximately $80,000. He also indicated the Cor~nittee <br />intended to increase the participation of the City's school-aged <br />children (K-12) in all aspects of this project, in order to generate <br />the maxim~ sense of community identity with the 1986 entry. <br /> <br />Goverrm~ental Cable Implementation Plan <br /> <br />The Executive Director of Conmunications and Marketing highlighted <br />elements of the Governmental Cable Impl~entation Plan doc~ent which <br />was previously provided to each Councilmember. She stressed the <br />advantages to the City to having access to Cable T.V., pointing out <br />that the more cities co[~nunicate with their citizens, the more <br />citizens get involved in city affairs. <br /> <br />CITY COUNCIL MINUTES 199 MAY 20, 1985 <br /> <br /> <br />
