The City Manager or his designee must give written approval of all <br />Temporary Upgrade Assignments involving an increase in pay for the <br />appointee. <br /> <br />B. Eligibility. <br /> <br />I. With the exception ofthose described in paragraph 3 below, regular, full-time <br />employees shall receive Temporary Upgrade Assignment Payifthe following <br />criteria are met: <br /> <br />a. The work assumed encompasses the majorityofthe typical duties and <br />responsibilities ofthe vacated position. <br /> <br />b. Employees must serve ten (10) consecutive working days of eight (8) <br />hours each, or eight (8) consecutive working days often (10) hours <br />each for employees working an alternative work schedule, in an <br />acting capacity to qualify for assignment pay. A permitted absence <br />of two (2) days or less during such ten (10) day period shall not be <br />deemed to void such consecutive service; however, the days of <br />absence shall not be counted in the computation of such ten (10) day <br />requirement. <br /> <br />c. In computing qualifying service rendered, only full days of actual <br />duty shall be included, and partial days shall not be combined to make <br />full days unless they are normally granted holiday hours. Normally <br />granted holidays will be included in computing actual duty days. <br /> <br />d. Employees must requalify for an upgrade (Temporary Assignment) <br />if the employee has not worked in this specific upgrade assignment <br />for a period of 18 consecutive months. The employee shall only be <br />considered to work in a higher classification if such work is duly and <br />specifically authorized by the employee's Department Head. <br /> <br />2. Whenever practicable, the appointing authority shall rotate Temporary <br />Upgrade Assignments among all qualified employees. <br /> <br />3. Employees in the following categories shall not be assigned to Temporary <br />Upgrade work unless specifically authorized by the City Manager: <br /> <br />a. Non-permanent employees (Probationary, Part-time, Seasonal, etc.). <br /> <br />b. Employees performing work above their regular classification in a <br /> <br />22 <br />
