<br />ARTICLE IV <br /> <br />4.0 SALARIES <br /> <br />4.1 Basic Compensation Plan. There is hereby established a <br />basic compensation plan for all members of the Santa Ana <br />Firemen's Benevolent Association who are now employed or <br />will in the future be employed in any of the designated <br />classifications of employment listed in this Agreement and <br />its attachments. <br /> <br />4.2 Salary Schedule. The basic salary schedule, attached <br />hereto in a matrix format as Exhibit A, and made a part <br />hereof as though set forth in full herein, provides <br />numerous salary rate ranges, each comprised of five steps <br />or rates of pay, for sworn (CalPERS "Safety") employees <br />and six steps or rates of pay for non-sworn (CalPERS <br />"Miscellaneous") employees. <br /> <br />The respective rate ranges are identified by a three-digit <br />number. The steps within each range are identified by the <br />letters "A" through "E" inclusive for sworn (CalPERS <br />"Safety") classifications and "AA" through "E" inclusive <br />for non-sworn (CalPERS "Miscellaneous") classifications, <br />with Step "A" or "AA", respectively, being the lowest step <br />in the range. The purpose of each step and the length of <br />service required for advancement to the next higher step <br />within a particular salary rate range are set forth in <br />Sections 4.5B, 4.6, 4.7 below and in Exhibit A herein. <br /> <br />4.3 Salary Adjustments. <br /> <br />The base salaries of employees covered by this Agreement <br />shall be adjusted as follows: <br /> <br />A. Effective July 1, 2004 through June 30, 2005 and July <br />1, 2005 through June 30, 2006, respectively, there <br />shall be no salary increases for employees covered by <br />this Agreement. If, however, any other City <br />bargaining unit receives an across-the-board salary <br />increase during the fiscal years defined above, <br />employees covered by this Agreement shall receive the <br />highest amount provided to any City bargaining unit. <br /> <br />B. Effective July 1, 2006, the base salary of employees <br />covered by this Agreement shall be increased by the <br />greater of the following amounts: 1) that percentage <br />increase necessary, rounded to the nearest half- <br />percent (.5%), not to exceed nine (9) salary rate <br />ranges (approximately 4.5%), to ensure that the top <br /> <br />10 <br />
