<br />4.6 <br /> <br />place such new employee at Step "B", Step "C", or Step <br />"D" within the allocated salary rate range, provided <br />that such employee shall be assigned such salary step <br />upon commencement of his or her service in the <br />classification of employment to which the salary rate <br />range applies, and such assignment having once been <br />made, shall remain in effect until the said employee <br />is entitled to advance to the next salary step in <br />accordance with the further provisions of this <br />Article. <br /> <br />B. New employees appointed in a probationary status to <br />the class of Firefighter shall be paid the rate shown <br />as Step "A" in a salary rate range set 53 rate ranges <br />less than the salary rate range herein established for <br />the class of Firefighter. Such probationary employees <br />shall be advanced to Step "B" of such probationary <br />rate range in accordance with Sections 4.6 and 4.7 of <br />this Article. Upon successful completion of the <br />probationary period, said employees shall be <br />automatically advanced to Step "B" of the salary rate <br />range herein established for the class of Firefighter <br />and shall advance through the remaining steps of that <br />range in accordance with Sections 4.6 and 4.7 of this <br />Article, and in Exhibit A herein. <br /> <br />C. A newly hired non-sworn employee represented by the <br />Association in a classification considered <br />"miscellaneous" under CalPERS shall be paid the rate <br />shown as Step "AA" in the salary rate range allocated <br />to the class of employment for which he or she has <br />been hired. In special instances where such new <br />employee possesses unique and exceptional education, <br />training, and/or experience qualifications, the Fire <br />Chief may submit a written request and justification <br />to the City Manager for authorization to place such <br />new employee at Step "A," Step "B," Step "C," or Step <br />"D" within the allocated salary rate range, provided <br />that such employee shall be assigned such salary step <br />upon commencement of his or her service in the <br />classification of employment to which the salary rate <br />range applies, and such assignment having once been <br />made shall remain in effect until the said employee <br />shall be entitled to advance to the next salary step <br />in accordance with the further provisions of this <br />Article. <br /> <br />Service.
