<br />ARTICLE VII <br /> <br />7.0 CAREER DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM <br /> <br />7.1 Sworn. Personnel in the classification of Firefighter who <br />have successfully completed their probationary period with <br />the Santa Ana Fire Department and personnel in the <br />classifications of Fire Engineer and Fire Captain will be <br />eligible to qualify for and participate in the Fire Safety <br />Career Development Program as set forth below. <br /> <br />For purposes of this section, "completion" means that <br />classroom attendance or other instructional delivery <br />system is required as approved by the Fire Chief. <br />Effective July 1, 2001, "life experience" credits are no <br />longer accepted toward the attainment of educational <br />units, for future applicants to this program. <br /> <br />A. Senior Fire Service Professional I. Any" safety- <br />member" bargaining unit member who attains the <br />educational, training and experience qualifications <br />specified below shall be paid an additional 10 salary <br />rate ranges (approximately 5%) above his or her then <br />current base monthly salary step. The criteria for <br />such designation shall be as follows: <br /> <br />1. <br /> <br />Completion of at least 60 college semester <br />(or equivalent quarter units) with major <br />work in Fire Science or other job-related <br />from accredited colleges or universities; and <br /> <br />units <br />course <br />areas <br /> <br />2. Completion of two optional achievements from two of <br />the three categories of elective achievements <br />listed in Subsection D below. No substitutions <br />shall apply. <br /> <br />B. Senior Fire Service Professional II. Any "safety- <br />member" bargaining unit member who attains the <br />educational, training and experience qualifications <br />specified below shall be paid an additional 20 salary <br />rate ranges (approximately 10%) above his or her then <br />current base monthly salary step. The criteria for <br />such designation shall be as follows: <br /> <br />1. Completion of at least 90 college semester units <br />(or equivalent quarter units) with major course <br />work in Fire Science or other job related areas <br />from accredited colleges or universities; and <br />2. Completion of four optional achievements from the <br />options listed in Subsection D below, with no more <br /> <br />23 <br />
