<br />ARTICLE I <br /> <br />1.0 RECOGNITION & DEFINITIONS <br /> <br />1.1 Pursuant to the provisions of the Meyers-Mi1ias-Brown Act, <br />Government Code Section 3500, et. seq., the City of Santa <br />Ana (hereinafter called the "City") has recognized the <br />Santa Ana Firemen's Benevolent Association (hereinafter <br />called the "Association") as the recognized representative <br />of the bargaining unit which includes Fire Department <br />employees in the "safety-member" classifications and <br />assignments of Firefighter, Fire Engineer, Fire Captain, <br />and the "miscellaneous-member" classes of Fire Services <br />Dispatcher, Fire Alarm and Maintenance Technician, Fire <br />Alarm and Maintenance Leader, Fire Safety Assistant, Fire <br />Safety Specialist I, II, and III, Fire Safety Analyst, and <br />Paramedic, and excludes all other "miscellaneous-member" <br />employees of the Fire Department and "safety-member" <br />classes of Fire Battalion Chief, Deputy Fire Chief and <br />Fire Chief. <br /> <br />1.2 As used in this Agreement, the term "chief personnel <br />officer or his or her designee" means the City's Executive <br />Director of Personnel Services; the term "agreement" means <br />the Memorandum of Understanding, dated July 1, 2004 <br />through June 30, 2008; the term "City" means the City of <br />Santa Ana; the term "department" means the Fire <br />Department; the term "Firefighter/Paramedic" means those <br />firefighters who possess a Paramedic Certificate and <br />receive a 25 salary rate range (approximately 12.5%) <br />assignment pay differential; the acronym "CaIPERS" refers <br />to the California Public Employees' Retirement System; and <br />the term "safety-member" for the provisions and benefits <br />of this contract shall include Firefighter, Fire Engineer, <br />Fire Captain, and all members of the Fire Prevention <br />Section (Fire Safety Specialists I, II, III, and Fire <br />Safety Analyst) hired prior to January 1, 1990. <br /> <br />4 <br />
