<br />to use up to three days (24 hours for 40 hour workweek <br />employees and 36 hours for Fire Services Dispatchers <br />assigned to the 12 hour work shift schedule) or three, <br />24 hour shifts (72 hours) for uniformed, "safety-member" <br />personnel and civilian Paramedics assigned to the 24 <br />hour shift schedule, per calendar year (on a non- <br />cumulative basis) for "personal necessity leave", which <br />circumstances shall be limited to serious accidents <br />involving members of the employee's immediate family, <br />childbirth, medical or dental appointments for members <br />of the employee's household, imminent danger to the <br />employee's home or other valuable property, or the <br />existence of external circumstances beyond the <br />employee's control making it impractical for him or her <br />to report to duty. <br /> <br />K. Payment for Unused Sick Leave. <br /> <br />1. Upon nondisciplinary termination of employment after <br />10 years of cumulative full-time service with the <br />City, each qualified employee shall be entitled to <br />payment for one-third of the total sick leave benefit <br />credited to his or her account upon the effective <br />date of such retirement or termination, not to exceed <br />a maximum limit of 427 hours for employees working an <br />eight-hour schedule or 640 hours for employees <br />working a twelve-hour schedule, at the rate of pay <br />effective on the date of such retirement or <br />termination. <br /> <br />At the employee's election, payment of unused sick leave <br />may be received in either a lump sum of money, or in <br />equal monthly payments for a period of up to five years. <br /> <br />A lump sum payment shall be made to the beneficiaries of <br />any eligible employee whose death occurs while such <br />employee is an active employee of the City, such payment <br />to be in the amount of one-third of the total sick leave <br />benefit credited to the employee' s account at the time <br />of his or her death, and at the rate of pay effective on <br />the date of death. <br /> <br />2. After 20 years of cumulative full time service with <br />the City (except for disciplinary termination), each <br />qualified employee shall be entitled to payment for <br />one-half (1/2) of the total sick leave benefit <br />credited to his or her account upon the effective <br />date of such termination, not to exceed a maximum <br />limit of 640 hours for employees working an eight- <br />hour schedule or 960 hours for employees working a <br /> <br />58 <br />
