<br />Fire Chief a physician's certificate stating the cause <br />of illness and that, in the physician's opinion, the <br />employee could not report to work because of such <br />illness or injury and that the employee is sufficiently <br />recovered to safely return to work. Such certificate <br />shall be transmitted to the chief personnel officer with <br />the report of the employee's return to work. <br /> <br />A physician's certificate or other satisfactory written <br />evidence of actual illness or injury may be required <br />after an absence of any duration less than three days, <br />or less than three scheduled shifts for uniformed, <br />"safety-member" personnel assigned to the 24 hour shift <br />schedule. <br /> <br />H. Denial. No employee shall be entitled to sick leave with <br />pay while absent from duty because of sickness or injury <br />purposely self-inflicted or caused by willful <br />misconduct; or, sickness or disability sustained while <br />engaged in employment other than employment by the City, <br />for monetary gain or other compensation. <br /> <br />I. Excess Usage. If sick leave is used in excess of that <br />due and available an employee, such excess sick leave <br />will, first, be deducted from any available compensatory <br />time off benefit; second, from any available vacation <br />leave benefit; finally, deducted from the next scheduled <br />wage or salary payment. <br /> <br />J. Personal Necessity Leave. Each employee shall be <br />afforded the opportunity to use sick leave benefits up <br />to six days (48 hours for 40 hour workweek employees and <br />72 hours for Fire Services Dispatchers assigned to the <br />12 hour work shift schedule) or six, 24 hour shifts (144 <br />hours) for uniformed, "safety-member" personnel and <br />civilian Paramedics assigned to the 24 hour shift <br />schedule, per calendar year (on a non-cumulative basis) <br />to attend to an illness of a child, parent, or spouse of <br />the employee. As used in this section: <br /> <br />1. <br /> <br />"Child" means a biological, <br />a stepchild, a legal ward, <br />standing in loco parentis; <br /> <br />foster, or adopted child, <br />or a child of a person <br /> <br />2. "Parent" means a biological, foster, or adoptive <br />parent, a stepparent, or a legal guardian. <br /> <br />Of the <br />above, <br /> <br />48, 72, and 144 hours, respectively, defined <br />each employee shall be afforded the opportunity <br /> <br />57 <br />
