MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING <br />OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />SANTA ANA, CALIFORNIA <br /> <br />May 5, 1986 <br /> <br />The meeting was called to order at 2:00 p.m. by Mayor Daniel E. <br />Griset in Room 831, City Hall, 20 Civic Center Plaza. Councilmembers <br />present were John Acosta, Wilson B. Hart, P. Lee Johnson, R. W. <br />Luxembourger, Patricia A. McGuigan, Dan Young and Mayor Griset. Also <br />present were City Manager Robert C. Bobb, City Attorney Edward J. <br />Cooper and Clerk of the Council Janice C. Guy. Councilmembers <br />informally discussed Housing-Community Redevelopment Agency and <br />Housing Advisory Commission. <br /> <br />The Council recessed at 2:46 p.m. and reconvened at 3:23 p.m. in Room <br />147, Council Chambers with all members present. <br /> <br />City Administration Study Session <br /> <br />Hank Cunningham, Assistant Director of the Economic Development <br />Agency, introduced Dan Mejia, the City's new Business Enterprise <br />Center Manager and Kathy Lusk, Coordinator of the Job Linkages <br />Program. Mejia explained his responsibility was to run the Business <br />Enterprise Center as well as a program designed to assist small <br />businesses. He indicated the small business assistance program was a <br />module of the Business Enterprise Center and that the goals for each <br />were to help businesses to become successful, to grow and expand and <br />to ultimately require additional employees who would be recruited <br />from Santa Ana's available labor pool. <br /> <br />Lusk described the Job Linkages Program, explaining its focus was to <br />match Santa Ana residents with available jobs. She also described a <br />program entitled Wcareer Beginningsw involving linkages between the <br />City of Santa Ana, Santa Ana High School, Rancho Santiago College and <br />the Job Training Partnership Agency whose goal would be to provide <br />mentors from the private sector for 100 high school juniors. She <br />indicated Santa Aha was one of the first urban cities to link <br />economic development and job training in this manner. <br /> <br />Councilme~er Luxembourger inquired as to the criteria to be used for <br />selecting students for the mentor program.
