<br />Any holiday which falls on a Sunday will be observed on <br />the following Monday. Any holiday which falls on a <br />Saturday will be observed on the Friday preceding the <br />holiday. <br /> <br />9.2 Employees assigned to the twenty-four (24) hour work shift <br />schedule shall be entitled to receive twelve (12), l2-hour <br />days off during the calendar year in lieu of the holiday <br />benefits specified in Section 9.1 of this Article. <br />Employees assigned to a forty (40) hour schedule, which <br />could be a 5/8 or a 9/80 or 4/10 "alternative work schedule" <br />shall receive twelve (12), 8-hour days off during the <br />calendar year in lieu of the holiday benefits specified in <br />Section 9.1 of this Article. <br /> <br />Said substitute holidays may be taken at any time during the <br />calendar year with prior permission of the employee's <br />supervisor and subject to the operational needs of the <br />department. However, if an employee who separates from the <br />service of the City has taken time off for holidays in <br />advance of the date or day the holidays actually occur, he <br />or she must pay the City the cash value for such used but <br />unearned holiday time off benefits prior to or at the time <br />of separation. <br /> <br />9.3 Cash Option. Employees covered by this Agreement will be <br />given an option once per calendar year to receive cash <br />compensation computed on a straight time basis in lieu of <br />all or part of their holiday leave benefits set forth in <br />Section 9.2 above. <br /> <br />Such cash option may be eliminated or modified at the <br />discretion of the Fire Department to the extent necessary to <br />service the best interests of the department, to the extent <br />it represents additional costs to the City, or to the extent <br />it is construed as overtime under Department of Labor <br />Guidelines implementing provisions of the Fair Labor <br />Standards Act. <br /> <br />9.4 An employee separating from the service of the City must <br />actually work at least one (1) day following the day a <br />holiday listed in Section 9.1 above actually occurs in order <br />to receive compensation for the holiday. <br /> <br />9.5 Holiday time off may only be taken in increments of whole <br />days. <br /> <br />29 <br />
