Radio Problems
If the radio goes down for maintenance, then you must call the dispatcher on the
phone. Some areas of the county will not let you transmit or receive because of the
geography. The problem areas are in Newport Beach, La Habra, Laguna Beach, San
Juan Capistrano, and San Clemente. Try for a few minutes before calling on the
phone if you are in a bad area. Some areas are prone to heavy interference like Costa
Mesa, Newport, and Huntington; but you can still work the radio. You are responsible
for being in a good radio area.
General Rules on calls
If you take a radio call you must pick it up. You must make every attempt to look for
the customer. Go inside the business, knock on the door, look around in case they are
on the way out, see the bartender or whatever the case may be. When all else fails ask
for a callout or think like a customer and start looking! Most people will not just
magically appear when you pull up. Always take into account traffic, construction,
and how long it takes to get to a call. A good way to no load a call is to take more
than 25 minutes to get to a call. Don't bid the call if you are far.
Never assume you know where the call is when you get to a checkpoint. Make sure
you get the right person. It's not always the guy standing at the corner flagging you
down.
If you cant find the address as you have it spelled, look for something close to it and
check with dispatch for the spelling.
The Thomas Guide
If you have trouble finding a street in the Thomas Guide, ask dispatch to verify the
spelling. Check for something close to the street spelling by looking at the
geographical map and back index.
VIII. Taxi Inspection/ Safety / Preventative Maintenance
A Taxi Cab conducts a thorough maintenance program for its vehicles under the Atlas
2000 preventive maintenance system. However, you are still responsible for alerting
us to problems for correction. Your negligence could become expensive if you fail to
verify an item on the checklist before taking a vehicle out. A Taxi Cab does inspect
vehicles before issuance, yet we insist that all safety measures, including redundancy
be used.
Drivers are responsible for inspections of taxi cabs on a daily basis. You must
complete a Vehicle Inspection Checklist for the assigned car. All items on the
checklist must be verified. The fleet manager shall be notified if there is a problem
with a vehicle. In the event of failure on any item, you shall notify the fleet manager.
The fleet manager shall take care of the problem for you or present you with another
vehicle. You will be called in for routine maintenance. A replacement vehicle will
be waiting for you or you may be given credit off your lease.
20
