This is one of the most dangerous mistakes.
A Taxi Cab's policy is very simple. Keep TWO, that's 2, cabs lengths per 10 miles of
speed in bad weather. Professional drivers don't take chances!!!! Did you know that
at 35 mph you are traveling 72 feet per second. You see brake lights in front of you.
You're fast in your reaction time. It takes you 1/2 second to apply the brake. You are
30 feet behind the car in front of you. Your car just traveled 36 feet in 1/2 second.
Your engine is now S feet into the trunk of the car in front of you. BACK OFF!
Save your life, your passenger's life and save our cab; save injuries to others and to
yourself. SAFETY FIRST!
LITTLE THINGS MEAN A LOT. Especially when it comes to paying attention.
Driving a cab is a full-time job. Keep your eyes on your job. Your job while moving
in traffic is watching the road and other vehicles. Not reading your map book, looking
at your passengers, writing on your trip sheet or any other action which takes your
eyes off your only job -- watching the road, other cars, and being in control of your
cab.
LASTLY, REMEMBER..
You are a PROFESSIONAL DRIVER, driving in a world of amateurs.
Much can be said about defensive driving but only you can save your life and prevent
harm to your passengers. Either you control the cab and the situation or you are
bound to become an accident waiting to happen. Take control, be in charge and drive
to survive. A professional driver plans his route rather than just speeding to a
location. Speed is no substitute for planning. In the last four years, the top money
earners in A Taxi Cab have not received a single speeding violation. Plan your route,
don't speed.
A Taxi Cab REWARDS safe drivers through Driver of the Year Program
FIVE KEYS OF SAFE DRIVING
1) AIM HIGH IN STEERING
a)Plan Ahead
b)Need to see ahead for a IS second lead time. At 60 mph that is `l— of a mile
c)Keep nothing on your dashboard or dangling from your rear view mirror
2) GET THE BIG PICTURE
a) Survey ahead, behind, and both sides of your vehicles (Always turn your bead)
23
