customers presents you with a voucher from another company after the trip is over
and it is not our voucher, check with dispatch first to see if we might take it.
Situations change so check first. Please, avoid charge backs, complete all spaces
on the voucher, keep the white copy and turn it into the cashier. NO GIFTS OR ALTERNATIVE MEANS OF PAYMENT CAN BE
RECEIVED BY DRIVERS IN EXCHANGE FOR PAYMENT. ONLY THE
ABOVE MEANS OF PAYMENT ARE ACCEPTED. ANY DRIVERS
ACCEPTING OTHERS WELL BE TERMINATED.
TAXIMETER
The taxi meter in your cab is the instrument that calculates the fares and records all
the trip data. It records the number of trips, the number of miles and the amount of
money. The taxi meter is connected to the DDS system and will let the Dispatch
Supervisor know if and where you are loaded at.
You turn on your meter only after the customer gets into your cab and you start to
pull away. Never run the meter before that. If it's a time call you may start the meter
at the time the order is due. Although you have this right, in general it is not wise to
start the meter until they are in your cab. Usually, the longer you are made to wait the
farther your passenger is going.
The meter calculates the fare based upon distance and time. Your meter starts at
$1.90: This is called the drop charge. After the first fifth of a mile the meter
calculates the fare at fractions of a mile_ The timer only comes on when you are
stopped in traffic or while you are waiting. Distance and time are never functioning at
the same time.
You have the ability to stop the meter at whatever amount is registered and to turn off
the waiting time. When you are taking a passenger a long distance, turning off the
waiting time will make for a better tip. If you are on a short run to a store, and are
asked to wait, always leave your meter running as this is the main function of the trip
and you have the right to be paid for the time invested.
Once you resume your trip the meter automatically reverts from the waiting time to
the mileage calculation. Always stop the der at the end of your trip. Do not allow
the timer to turn over while you are collecting the fare. This is not a legitimate part of
the fare. It is also a bad form of business and will upset the passenger. The ride is
over when you stop, not when they get out.
Meter rates are set by regulation and meters are inspected and sealed by the
Department of Weights and Measures. A broken seal roust be reported to the
company immediately. Bring in any cab with a fast or slow meter. If you have any
doubts, or the customer complains, check your fare with the dispatcher over the radio
so the customer can hear. If there is a discrepancy, charge the customer the least
amount and bring the cab in for recalibration. Remember, the meter only calculates
28
