On February 4, 1999, the Manager of Landside Operations called to advise that we had done
an "outstanding job of handling the unexpected arrival of a large contingent of doctors
bound for a major convention in Anaheim." The loading of over 227 taxicabs in one hour
on February 3 1999, was a huge success thanks to our superior, dedicated TWA 100+ fleet
and it's reserve fleet of an additional 100+ at the time.
A Taxi Cab had also eliminated the wait that passengers encountered during rush periods
like Thanksgiving, the busiest travel time of the year. Passengers were greeted by an effi-
cient starter system that provided a taxi instantaneously, without delay; restricted only by the
capacity of the transportation conduits and lanes provided by JWA. This certainly provided
harried travelers one less hassle and one long sigh of relief as they were promptly, efficiently
whisked home to family or other destinations.
During the course of our previous contract with JWA we eliminated a $1.00 per ride sur-
charge that was the source of many complaints from the previous contractor, according to
operations reports.
A White and Yellow Cab Inc. also provided many fasts for the JWA, including a dress code,
uniformity in the appearance of vehicles, paid car washes for vehicles, and overall higher
customer service. Many of the these aspects are now required for the current contractor. We
apparently made an impression with the media which noticed the professionalism of our
driver, in a Chicago newspaper. See Attachment 2.
A White and Yellow Cab Inc.'s contract with JWA terminated in late 2000. The contract was
awarded to a company (American Taxi) that was started by a previous General Manager of A
White and Yellow Cab Inc. and a lobbyist for the Board of Supervisors. The new company
promised a fleet of Natural Gas - no emissions vehicles. That company later declared bank-
ruptcy and a consortium of taxi companies, then took over the contract.
Similar Experience - City of Anaheim Franchise
Anaheim is the 10th largest city in California with a population of over 300,000 residents.
The overwhelming service industry base is supported by the immense lure of Disneyland and
the Convention Center. The global mix of visitors, tourists, and residents is akin to what one
might expect of an international transportation center.
The Disney and Anaheim Resort area we serve represent ample experience for The Depot.
In 1987 we earned special status in the City of Anaheim allowing us to provide licensed
service to their conventions, hotels, and tourist attractions, including the Disneyland Park.
Up to 2002, we enjoyed a semi exclusive licensing agreement with the City of Anaheim for
many years. In 2002, during an intense, competitive review and RFP, we were awarded a
continuing semi- exclusive franchise with the City of Anaheim for 50 taxicabs. This valida-
tion of our capabilities and level of service prove our abilities for The Depot.
The diverse and intense high volume service environment in Anaheim has fine tuned our
company, adapting us to many special needs and requirements presented by the Anaheim
Convention Center, area hotels, and entertainment facilities. It is well known that hotel
guests will often prefer 1(800)4MY- -TAXI over a competing company due to it's profession-
alism, uniformed drivers, and vehicle choice.
