MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING <br />OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />SANTA ANA, CALIFORNIA <br /> <br />JUNE 15, 1987 <br /> <br />The meeting was called to order at 2:23 p.m. by Vice Mayor Patricia A. <br />McGuigan, in Room 423, City Hall, 20 Civic Center Plaza. Councilmembers <br />present were John Acosta, Wilson B. Hart, Ron May, Miguel A. Pulido, and <br />Patricia A. McGuigan. Also present were City Manager David N. Ream, City <br />Attorney Edward J. Cooper and Clerk of the Council Janice C. Guy. <br /> <br />Councilmember Daniel E. Griset joined the meeting at 2:35 p.m. Mayor Dan <br />Young was absent due to his attendance at the U. S. Conference of Mayors <br />in Nashville, Tennessee. <br /> <br />COUNCIL STUDY SESSION <br />1987-88 City Budget <br /> <br />Fire Department <br /> <br />Fire Chief Bud Carter demonstrated models of an aerial ladder truck and <br />pumper truck, the major pieces of equipment utilized by the Department, <br />and reviewed the deployment of fire stations and equipment in the City. <br />He presented the Department's mission statement, 5-year goals, <br />organization chart, fleet management plan, and apparatus replacement <br />schedule; introduced Division Heads of the major functions within the <br />Department; and responded to Councilmembers' questions. <br /> <br />Councilmember Acosta requested the Council be provided with a listing of <br />back-injury claims filed by Fire Department staff members. <br /> <br />Councilmember May inquired as to the Chief's opinion concerning possible <br />changes or modification to the City's Paramedic Program, but the Chief <br />responded his tenure with the City was too brief to provide any <br />recommendations. <br /> <br />Vice Mayor McGuigan noted that the dispatch screening procedure being <br />recommended by the Department represented a departure from current <br />practices. The Chief responded that medical treatment was evolving <br />constantly, and that personnel would be thoroughly trained in the new <br />procedures. <br /> <br />At 3:07 p.m., the Council recessed and reconvened at 3:16 p.m. with the <br />same members present. <br /> <br />CITY COUNCIL MINUTES 168 JUNE 15, 1987 <br /> <br /> <br />
